using DSP-LLE (3-cores)
the cpu throotles to 2.4ghz or 2.6ghz (4core mode)

LLE can run on 2 cores if you don't check LLE on thread

Let turbo-boost do its thing, because it knows the temperature of the CPU and adjusts accordingly. The 2620m and 2720qm will likely give you fine perfect performance with almost all Gamecube and good, maybe fullspeed performance with most Wii games. The 2620m does have a higher turbo-boost speed (3.2 Ghz with 2 cores active) than the 2720qm (3.1Ghz with 2 cores active) but the extra cores and L3 cache should help out a lot in Dolphin and other things on the laptop. Are you still looking at a dv6t?

I am certainly thinking about it, but the Opengl and switchable graphics thing seems to be a big problem for people. I'm not sure how it would affect me or if it affects Dolphin.
It doesn't seem to affect me at all. There's an option if I right click Dolphin.exe to let me choose which graphics processor to use an I set the 555m as default. Now, the adapter under Graphics > Adapter is always Geforce 555M. Don't know about the HP ones though.
Here would be a picture of it...

I spent nearly 3 weeks working with Dolphin on the HP DV6T-6100. The swichable graphics works fine if you use only DirectX9/DirectX11. In other words, Dolphin will work fine for you.

OpenGL support did not work well due to the switchable graphics driver problems. But OpenGL is slower anyway on current Dolphin from my testing on other hardware (desktop without dual GPU).

AGAIN: Dolphin works FINE. It's just that these muxless switchable graphics systems give you a lot less control over the hardware. For me, working with Linux, this was nothing but problems. Eventually, drivers will catch up, but it could be a long time and require a binding of Intel+ATI/Nivida drivers that could frustrate performance enthusiasts.

Even a top-end i7 quad laptop is going to have issues with Dolphin. Get a 2.2Ghz if you can Wink

P.S. For $927 that is an OK system, you favored the 2.2Ghz CPU which is not a cheap upgrade. I do point out that this is a pretty poor laptop for web surfing/development/writing... that 15.6" screen is resolution poor. But I understand it is more moeny to get the 1080p display. But 15.6" is a LARGE laptop in my experience, I would get a 1080p display, on the system you are looking at - those are some large pixels.
I have a 900p 17" laptop. Those are some HUGE pixels! It's a huge laptop too (8 pounds). However, you got a pretty good price for that CPU and a decent mobile graphics card. Keeping the graphics locked on to the ATi card might be hard though, so fiddle with it.
