Hello.
Having so much troubles with so many GC and Wii games on dolphin, I looked into an idea of buying a Wii and run it on my PC monitor.

Can't give you the precise stats atm, but it's a 26inch or 32 inch (depending on which one I setup).

So I'm wondering if the graphics will be ugly? My brother sad they might be extremely ugly compared to dolphin (since I got a pretty awesome computer). Is there a huge difference?

From that I'm also wondering about the HDTV Wii (original?) cables. How much they enhance they picture? How much nicer does it look? What exactly does it do? Can't find any good videos about it ..

Any help appreciated.
Thank you!

HLE? What's that?

And it's worse even with HDTV cables?
How much worse is it? Huge pixels and really crappy textures or not that noticeable at all?

Wii DOES NOT use HDTV Cables. There is no VGA there is no HDMI.
Wii runs 480p at max.

Dolphin is able to run 1080p and uses anti-aliasing, something that the Wii lacks.
You will notice on the Wii that is it crawling with jagged edges.

Dolphin gives a crisp image of the games.

I guess I'm getting it wrong. What is this then?
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii-Component-Cable-HDTV-Definition/dp/B000M5ZIVY (I do realize it's 480, but still?)

So basically you would suggest to not buy a wii?
I just hate the so many problems Dolphin has. Tons of graphic glitches and low FPS at my favorite games like Paper Mario, Mario Galaxy and Zeldas, both for GC and Wii. And worst of all, my computer doesn't detect Classic Controller in any way (so I can't play GC games without keyboard).
No way to make it better? Maybe through computer or something?

So either I go with really really REALLY crappy graphics or unplayable games? hmm ... Sad

Thx

The entire line of questions here is loaded with crappy expectations and attitudes.

1. Dolphin is not horrible at running games on high-end hardware, Exactly what game problems are you having?
2. Are you kidding me that you expect the Wii graphics to be the primary concern of a Wii gamer? Give me a break. Are you really bored this week or something?

I'd rather focus on helping you resolve your Dolphin game problems. But you do not mention any specific games or technical issues.

It's very common for the uninitiated to not understand that Dolphin was not designed for _their purpose_ and nobody is being paid to do it. I'm thankful for the free tool and how it allows me to do things that my Wii console does not. But, I also respect, it is a difficult technical exercise - and learning is a big part of the enjoyment.

Ok, as you wish.

Before I even begin I would just like to say that I don't like using Wiimote in any way, I prefer old school controls and definitely hate using keyboard.
And I've also spent countless of hours on threads specially made to fix this kind of problems, I've tried many Dolphin settings for each and every game and had no luck so far.

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess GC
-Disappearing and reappearing sound (some people say they lose it entirely)
-A lot of FPS drop at the very beginning where you're in the small starting area.. I'm afraid what's gonna happen when I get in bigger places with more monsters and more combat.
-Can not and can not get my Classic Controller to work with it, or acquire any kind of hardware to help me out. (Slovenia is a stupidly small country).

Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door GC

-A lot of missing graphics, graphical glitches and appearances that cause huge FPS drop, making the game unplayable.
-But again and here most importantly, the lack of Classic Controller.

Super Paper Mario:
- A lot of small graphical glitches and missing textures. There are points in game that you just can't pass be cause of those.
- And again FPS drop at times.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker GC
- People claim they have a lot of FPS issues and few graphical glitches. I myself have yet to try it, but already at the beginning, everything seams to move slower.

Super Mario Galaxy 2:
- Huge, HUGE FPS drop making the game unplayable at the beginning. Starts to be better later, but with low FPS all the time.
- Plus I hear there are big problems with sound disappearing completely.

Plus a lot of other games I don't care about so much, but still can't be played as intended. (For example, I can't play Mario Kart with my friends as it just lags too much)

I am not an idiot and I do learn fast. But damn, I must be really retarded to not be able to fix all those problems. Also, my appreciation to people that make things like Dolphin, indie developers and any kind of solo projects is far greater then you might ever think. I might have not showed it back there, just be cause I was (and still am) really frustrated over all of this. I want to play the games to their fullest potential. I can deal with few graphical issues and stuff like that, but huge lags, whole textures missing and sound not playing at all, is not acceptable. And again, I do not blame Dolphin in any way at all. I blame my computer, but unfortunately I can't afford much better.
I also (obviously) like good graphics, but I am not familiar with all of this, so I don't know how big of a difference it will be. On my friend's TV (3 meters away) it looks nice. On Dolphin it looks amazing. But I don't know how good it will look on a computer monitor with build in TV, half a meter away from my face.

Here are my computer specs. I'm not a big computer geek, but I know that this shouldn't get any better for any reason. I can run every game to the fullest graphics without problems. Yet, I have problems:

Code:
System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
               BIOS: Default System BIOS
          Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X3 720 Processor (3 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
             Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 4096MB RAM
Page File: 3555MB used, 4633MB available
Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
Chip type: ATI display adapter (0x9442)
           DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
     Display Memory: 2296 MB
   Dedicated Memory: 504 MB
      Shared Memory: 1791 MB
       Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (59Hz)

There. Hope you can help my pathetic life. And for your information, I am all alone at home waiting for my girlfriend to come back from a trip, while it's raining like hell outside for the past four days. So yes, I'm fu*king bored and horny as hell, ... for video games.

Sorry for my horrible English.
Help really appreciated.
Thank you!
Dolphin isn't perfect, so naturally graphical glitches should appear here and there.

Your processor is a little weak for playing at full FPS (Recommended to have 3.4GHz).
You could lower your resolution to increase speed a bit.

The Wii does have the best compatibility for Games. It should be obvious because the
games were made for the Wii. However, like I said, the graphics capabilities aren't great.

If you prefer graphics, Dolphin is what you should stay with.
If you prefer speed, Wii should be your answer.

Games that support multiplayer split screens like Mario Kart should naturally
see a FPS drop. That is why your gameplay with friends is slow.
A single player game is 60 FPS, but drops to 30 FPS from multiplayer.

Basically, you are deciding between graphics, or speed. To obtain something, something must be
sacrificed in this case.

I understand that completely.
I am not asking you to state my problem in a different way, I am asking for solutions and help.
As you sad, graphics or speed. You can't enchant graphics on Wii, but you can enchant speed on Dolphin. So there should be an obvious solution. And that's why I am asking how can I do that. More so, what could I upgrade on my computer to increase speed. Just Processor? Or is there something else I could perhaps do?
I also need more help and experience people have to completely decide. Those unfixable sound bugs and unfixable missing textures and graphical glitches that render game completely unplayable are a huuuuge factor as well. So now I've restated everything again Smile But you get my point. I would like more help regarding the matter.

Thank you.

Look, I'm just trying to help you out, all right?

Emulation is a high technical "big computer geek" thing. Your system is clearly underpowered on CPU for Dolphin... I really can't emphasize this enough. Dolphin just does not work well when it is running too slow. Games are timing specific, and designed to all run on the same console hardware with predictable results. A system that is too slow causes all kinds of glitches in the gameplay. Example: I find Wii Sports Bowling doesn't work the same if Dolphin isn't running at proper speed (which requires a system far more CPU than you have in my testing).

I know you desire it, because it is cool, but that doesn't change the laws of the universe. Your system is CPU underpowered.

Again, I'm just trying to help you. The Wii console is $100 (without controllers and games) and plays the games pretty damn well. Dolphin on my $850 i7 3.1Ghz laptop can not really match it performance wise in all games... but pretty damn good. And that is WITHOUT me telling Dolphin to enhance the graphics beyond standard, that is only going to slow it down more.
