If you have an AM2+/AM3 socket I see no reason why you shouldn't choose the Quad Core I suggested.
It's way better then the X2 one.

Let me see if I get this straight.
You don't have and AM3 socket but you're having a hard time choosing from CPU's that is AM3 socket types?
Are you 100% sure that you really don't have at least a AM2+ socket?
A AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz should be compatible with a newer AM2+ socket type.
