Quote:Actually gaming desktops are usually cheaper (they just have a broader price range). And you get A LOT more performance per dollar from a desktop
Yep, but I also figured something out...I already have two desktops (that I could only upgrade the graphics card, ram and hard drive because my mom doesn't want to upgrade the processor, because of the processor being hard to reach already.), both of which that BARELY run Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl, Zelda Wind Waker, New Super Mario Bros., and some WiiWare, but can do SOME justice. When I get a job and save the money, I would then get an EPIC laptop (Sandy Bridge Core I5, dedicated graphics and a s**tload of ram.), and then since my parent's main thing about me building a computer is that I have to have my own room first, because currently I am sharing a room with my two little brothers (my cousin has her own room, and we are living in a 3 bedroom house, sorry if I am giving you a mouthful of info, it is because of my Autism and I feel I have to explain everything completely). Also another main factor is that my youngest brother and my cousin are basically Bonnie and Clyde, Thing 1 and Thing 2, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and so on and so forth. That is why...(Sorry, again, excuse me.D: )
Quote:You know that $700 desktop you just designed? I promise you that you won't be able to find a gaming laptop anywhere near that powerful no matter how expensive it is.
But when I move into a bigger house, things would be alright and Ivy Bridge would be out by then, right? (Around a year from now, IDK) I know what you are saying, but for right now I feel the laptop is a good idea, since it will probably not leave the house anyways. And I can always snatch a great deal off of NewEgg. (Yup! You've turned me into a believer!

)
Quote:I don't see how the siblings would be a problem for the same reason that I don't see how it would prevent you from owning an armored vehicle. If you took one look at my case and tried to lift it you would have trouble figuring out how a toddler and/or child could possibly damage it in any way (it has locks so even if they tried to get inside they couldn't). If you put it on top of a desk I don't see how they could get liquid inside of it.
When I still had the thought of building a desktop in my mind, I was thinking of just buying parts gradually, but then again Thing 1 and Thing 2 would get into it...
Quote:I ran into this same problem when I was your age. My parents tried to get me to accept a prebuilt desktop/laptop but I persisted in saying "no, I want to build my own, end of story, I'de rather have no computer than a prebuilt system". It never worked until my cousin who had built several computers and was generally regarding as the familes tech wiz offered to guide me through the process, only then did my parents agree. So basically I got lucky. But here I am 5 years later with the same system (granted MOST of the parts have been upgraded by now) in college as an ENGINEERING MAJOR. Now I build stuff all the time that would have freaked my parents out.
I am glad that there is someone that was on the same boat as me...thanks. If I try to discuss about me building a computer, she would say..
YOUR ARGUMENT IS INVALID. NOW GO ON...
And that would be the end of it...
Other than that, again, THANKS.
