Hi there,
we're finally close to release, only a few more blocking bugs need to be fixed.
So here is the thing: One of the (many) key features of 3.0 is the addition of translations. We do have quite a few of those, but many just suck. This thread is supposed to clarify which translations to include in 3.0 and which translations should just be dropped.

Why drop translations in the first place, you'd think any translation is better than English? - not really, translations aren't useful at all if they invent a whole different meaning to each option we have.

What can be regarded release-quality? Let's say a) all common strings should be translated b) there shouldn't be any obvious translation or spelling mistakes c) it shouldn't cause any glitches (iirc some arabic translations have problems with RTL-stuff?) d) there shouldn't be any other obvious reason not to include the translation in 3.0 Wink

TL;DR: Just answer to this thread if you think a specific translation is good enough for release OR if you think a translation should be dropped.
And please, think about your response. Don't answer if you just WANT the translation to be included; the inclusion wish should be justified.

List of languages which have been voted against (further confirmation welcome):
- Hebrew (Schwimmer)
- Hindi (Runo)
- German (neobrain + Runo)
- Italian

List of languages which need further confirmation:
- Chinese for inclusion? (qkthomas)
- Polish (Baszta, Runo... supposedly getting updated properly soon)
- any other language not mentioned, yet
Hebrew translation - should NOT be included.
The Hebrew translation barely translates a few words nowadays and just makes it harder because it changes Dolphin's arrangement to Right-to-Left. It should definitely be removed.
Portuguese Translation and Potuguese Brazilian Translation - Should be included.
I've been doing my best to find the best translation to each string on PT_BR translation, I sometimes make updates only with corrections. I've checked Portuguese translations many times now, it is fine aswell. Both of them are up to date most of the time, they are updated frequently.
Also, I have 2 friends using dolphin on their computers by my recommendation, and neither of them ever complained about anything language related.

Turkish Translation - Should be included.
It's updated often and he has done various translation corrections on his updates (he aways points them out).

Arabic Translation - Should be included.
Updated often, aways up to date.

Hindi translation - Should NOT be included.
The guy translated 1% and vanished, in no way that's a translation.

German Translation - Should NOT be included.
It's unfortunate tough, cause it was a hard and nice work on it, the translators often discussed about different translations for one string or another on the Translations thread, but they stopped working and now it's pretty outdated (90%). This should be out unless they make an update before 3.0.

For those who dont know, I keep an updated list about translations and its versions/percentages here: http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/showthread.php?tid=14231
It can be a good help to judge the translations.

Also, the recent changes in the video config dialog are on pot rev 31. Rev 32 just changes one string, so evrything behind rev 31 would be terribly outdated.

@Schwimmer
I didnt even know there was a Hebrew translation, it's not on my list and I've never seen any updates. I'd better look for that...
Arabic Translation - Should be included.

I have updated the translation into revision 32

The translation is 100%

There are 22 Arab countries

10 in Africa

12 in Asia

I hope add Arabic language

Thank you RunoSmileSmile
Thanks for the responses so far Smile

What I wanted to add: Note that it's not really a convincing argument to me if a translation has ALL strings translated. It usually hints at the fact that the author just translated EVERYTHING by guess without having a clue what the options actually mean.
This is the reason why the German translation won't make it btw - Yes, there where two guys who did some nice work on it. However, only one of them cared to REALLY do a proper job at it. The other one just translated EVERYTHING without having a clue and thus we now have many idiotic translations in de.po. Meanwhile, the first guy seems to have vanished and the second one didn't respond to my request of not further introducing wrong translations (and seems to have vanished as well).
Yeah, and also, having all/most the strings translated is to me more like a requirement. The arguments are, for example, having some correction only, or correction related translation updates.
However, there are languages that we can't know if are being properly translated. It's a shame that you found that kind of problem, Neobrain... For the languages that I can understand, like Portuguese (my mother lang), Portugal Portuguese and Spanish, that didnt happen. I figured that because this is a volunteered work the people who did it would actually do it carefully.
Also, I wrote it in my last post here and I express yet again my opinion that no translation behind r31 should go in, it would be really... ugly.
It's up to you guys, tough.... Wink

Sure, especially since I'll be committing my UI changes soon, having the included translations fixed for the changes is mandatory.
Above all don't skip french translation... french people are refractory to foreign languages (and especially english Tongue) if you put it off it will be considered as a crime and it will be hard to recover... Big GrinTongue
more seriously I think you must keep it Wink

Yeah but is it good?
Regardless of what the French think about english, a bad translation would only cause us problems....
