Core i7-990 Extreme 6-core CPU overclocked to 4.4Ghz
12GB of Corsair DDR-3 1600 RAM
NVIDIA GTX 295
Corsair Force F120 SSD
Etc

My weakest link right now is my video card, but it's still far more than powerful enough to emulate games using Dolphin.

Anyway, I tried Rakanishu's solution; it didn't work for me, so I really don't know what to do at this point.

WTF
Why WTF?
the cpu is a 80% overkill...
the price vs your average cpu load

you could bought a second pc for your younger brother or son or sister or dad etc...

and i hope you are paying the energy bill alone...

good analysis Big Grin
I have good reason to have that CPU. I run a fairly large Minecaft server on this computer, and I need a lot of power and a lot of cores to do it efficiently. I have the server itself, the garbage collection for Java, The administration frontend tool, and the MySQL server all running on different threads. And because there are 12 threads, I have some leftover for other processes so I won't interfere with the server's CPU time.

The performance improvement over my old i7-920 was very noticeable, so I would say it was money well spent.

And not only that, but performance in my video and sound editing apps was also improved. A good choice all around, I'd say.
