If I were to go with the i3, I'd also have to spend at least another 20 USD on the motherboard; there are no cheap Mini ITX LGA1155 boards. However, you're right; the latest Intel offering does blow AMD's offerings out of the water.

When does Bulldozer come out? I believe it was June, right?
Yep I think it's slated for June.
Wait and see what the prices will be, if it's to pricy for your budget then the X4 that I mentioned is a mighty fine bet.

AMD never set an exact date. They just said Q2/Q3 so somewhere in the summer-fall area. You can expect them to be roughly on par with the previous generation of intel cpus (lyynfield/bloomfield) as far as dolphin performance goes.

Nope, it was confirmed June. Also, benchmarks have been leaked of Zambezi beating i7 2600k, and are completely blowing the second generation out of the water until Ivy Bridge. In fact I'm also pretty sure a marketing document said they'd begin shipping on June 11th, so yeah..

Yes I'm sure those are from a reliable source /end sarcasm

AMD stated that 8 core models would see a 50% increase in performance. Which is a 12.5% increase in performance per clock per core, which would put them on par with lyynfield/bloomfield, but even that was speculation/assumption on their part so nothing is set in stone until release. And keep in mind dolphin is not highly multi-threaded. In order for it to perform well with dolphin the prefetch/brand prediction/memory bandwidth/ and vector OP/s per thread all have to improve significantly.

And where did you get the june date from if I may ask? I can't seem to find the announcement.
Anyone have any news about a low profile 6670 yet?
For a 6670 you would need about a 250-300 watt psu. You could go up to a 6450 with a 150 watt psu. Probably a 5570 with a 200 watt psu. Anything more would need a 250-300 watt psu.
Combinations to consider for your NES build.

Core i3 2100 65 watt + 6450 27 watt
Core i3 2100T 35 watt + 5670 64 watt
Phenom II X2 555 80 watt + 6450 27 watt
Athlon II X3 420E 45 watt + 5670 64 watt

Another option although not recommended is going with a PowerColor HD 5750 card and underclocking it to the lowest settings for core and mem. That way you still get the extra shaders but lower the power consumption of the card.
lol @ you guys throwing out numbers on assumptions of performance. There's a few sites saying it's June release date and I wouldn't be surprised if it performs as good Sandybridge or even better. They aren't bringing back the FX brand for no reason Wink
Just so that nobody can claim I don't have any sources: http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20100803141038_AMD_Bulldozer_Microprocessors_May_Not_Bring_Dramatic_Performance_Boosts.html

Similar articles can be found on tomshardware, anandtech, etc. Bulldozer might beat sandy bridge in heavily multi-threaded benchmarks but in applications like dolphin, no way in hell.

Got a 404 on that link Natural.
