Quote:Also note that the overall feedback to r7484 was quite positive (much better than I had expected). So apparently quite a few users DID find the config profile system cumbersome as well.
True, 17 positive votes, 7 neutral and 2 negative.

While at (your) revision 7167 were 18 votes all positive.
Billiard revision (7386) got 5 positive and 6 negative,
And when Gnick reverted basically to your first implementation he got 10 positive and 5
negative.

Personally I voted neutral on 7484 because basically I trust you. If you say that the code is a mess is sufficient for me, that is a good reason.
But the usability thing...that's another issue, and I think others thought the same. That's why IMO the neutral votes.
We need pre configured game inis because there are a lot of games that need specific settings like copy to RAM, CPU access disabled, accurate texture cache and so on...so I don't understand why they should be considered useless...without them you should remember all the settings and change them every time you load a different game...

Video settings changes on the fly is a very important feature for testing purpose, otherwise you have to close the emulator, change the setting, restart the emulator, reload the game and pass again through the usual intro sequencesUndecided...after a while you would get very very annoyed...

Have you even bothered to read what I wrote? a) I did NOT remove the functionality of game specific settings, just the UI for it b) Neither did I consider that UI useless, I just removed the UI so that other UI cleanup can be done and later a better concept of per-game settings UI can be implemented. c) Dolphin also already provides you with a stable config for each game

And again you seem to have ignored what I said, you can change the settings perfectly fine during emulation using the normal video config dialog. There's just no need to permanently modify the per-game settings for that though.
i didn't bother voting, otherwise it would've been a landslide negative.

This thread is just a lightning rod.
Perfection of the code is what matters. I can understand that, you guys are perfectionists.
I just hope that after you'll have series of consecutive orgasms while looking at the beauty of the code you'll slow down the hole excitement and remember about the users.

But what puzzles me the most is that you started the whole thing and now you talk about others not understanding the principles.

Perfection of the code is a laugh, out of this group of misfits only 2 or 3 are capable of it, the entire lot of them failed ergonomics im sure

The first part of my message was referred to what Xtreme2damax said (basically that game.inis are useless), while the second part was referred to you saying: "I won't make it possible to change it on the fly since it's not necessary. And everyone who thinks it is necessary is misunderstanding the principle behind per-game config"...but I didn't understand that you meant only the per game profilesExclamation

@NeoBrain
One way to fix this is have an option to enable and disable the "configuration profile"(Since is OFF by default)
I simply love this method(r7391),with configuration profile, is possible to configure all the games at once.
Go, every time, configure a certain game is annoying, his idea to create profiles for games is brilliant, many games need certain options.

To some games the Vsync option is good, for others games is bad,for some games is possible to use integral ,for others games fractional is better and other stuff , like EFB to Ram,Dlist cache,XFB,Accurate texture cache,Dest, alpha pass.

Add that option, with the choice to enable and disable(turn on and off)Wink
This way, those who do not want to use it simply turn off.
Erm, seriously. Learn what the purpose of game inis is and come back, thanks Tongue
Erm, seriously. Learn what a bunch of arrogant misfits you dolphin devs appear to be most of the time, especially where stupid design decisions come to light.

Wow, and Squall has never been baned why?
He has been banned several times, but I resist from doing so this time since he's just some lamer who complains about everything without reason Tongue (or at least without elaborating on it, so I fail to care)

On a more serious note, I fail to understand your logic. I think you don't realize that we still support per-game settings (and in fact, we have a huge database of game inis which enable enforce the most important settings for each game, unless you change the settings in-game again); it's just the User Interface we disabled for now.
Also, I doubt there are any users which don't want to use configuration profiles at all. Especially since the default configuration from our database is almost always the ideal configuration anyway. On top of that, we really wouldn't want the video config dialog to be cluttered with that config profile combobox AND a checkbox to enable it... let's not confuse users even more Wink
For what it's worth, until we have a better UI in place, you can still manually modify the game ini from the ISO properties (which has a button to open the game ini in a text editor).
