Maybe, maybe not.
Maybe Windows 7 was the last good OS we ever saw being shipped from Redmond.
It doesn't look good for 8 at the moment in my book.
To be honest I think many of us here don't see any use for 8 at the time being.

Dolphin, PC games and much of the software I use in a daily basis works perfect in 7 why would I ever wanna trade that for a worse OS like 8 probably gonna be.

Frankly SP2 for 7 is the thing I'm looking forward to at the moment with it's release next year.

Windows 8 = send it to the recycle bin

If I were cynical I would say Windows 8 IS 7.2... Wink
The version number will likely be 6.2. Win8 will probably be more about tablets than desktops. It can mount ISOs we are going upgrade for that right.
Yea Vista failed, among other things, because ms wanted to do somethin' too pretty and it ran like shit.
Seems like the same to me now.

shyninja

ugh yeah i know when i first got vista they gave it to me with only 1gb of ram my comp barely ran.

Windows 8 mounting ISOs and VHDs isn't really attractive at all, not to me anyway and should already have been made in Vista/7 a long time ago.
DAEMON Tools Lite gives me everything and then some when it comes to discs and VMWare and Virtual PC for VHDs

Right now nothing about 8 is attractive.

Well that's what I feel about it.

Win8 now with even faster booting.
OSS LLC are probably filing a lawsuit right now.
Wish that video showed a bit more. They always stop the clock the moment the desktop shows up not until the HDD stops grinding (no I won't get a SSD). They only showed the metro UI so I assume its longer if you want to load explorer.
I'm going to raise my flame shield here and say that faster booting and shutdown isn't everything and still doesn't make Windows 8 attractive for me.
It doesn't matter what they do at this point, they still gonna have two interfaces crammed into it.
And the Metro UI is one of the unsexiest things I have seen.

I have an ASUS eee PC 1001PXD with an Intel Atom N455 @ 1.6GHz processor with 2GB ram and an integrated Intel GPU @ 256MB that I bought recently.
Mostly for business trips but also for pleasure on other travels.
Pretty slim and not the strongest notebook around but is very functional and works with most programs.

It came with Windows 7 Starter pre-installed with a lot of bloatware which sucked, I did a clean install of 7 Professional but wasn't really satisfied.
7 isn't suited for every PC ever made and I actually installed Vista Ultimate instead and loved it. Seems to me that Vista over the years have received a lot of hate for being this and that.
Just as XP (despite it being ancient) Vista is now an grown and mature OS and most of it's flaws it once had is gone.

Vista and 7 is for me the 2 best client OS's that Microsoft have made (Server 2008 and R2 being the best server counterparts)
Vista compared to 7 and the new "8" is so much simpler.

7 however is without a doubt the best OS suited for gaming though.

Vista is great and I take it any day over 8.

I agree I have Vista on a laptop too (7 on my desktops Tongue) and I don't complain Wink
Thank god Smile I was prepared to be flamed for sure but got positively surprised.

I haven't seen that many people on forums that actually liked Vista or have had much good to say about it.
And it sometimes feels like Microsoft themselves hate it, why I don't know.
Sad really.

There's pros and cons with almost all OS's
Vista ain't bad, 7 isn't the almighty savior as so many on other forums claims it to be although it's one of the best.

"8"... well I don't know.
I'm guessing that "8" and "2012 Server" will share the same code base/kernel but hopefully the Server version comes without the Metro UI and is much more lighter and cleaner.
Still the price tag on that thing is way to much so it's out of the question and all the tweaks and fixes you have to do just to get it working like a client side OS not being worth it.

So that stills leaves me with Vista & 7 with "8" in the garbage can.
