Quite interesting OC this guy did I mean 4.9GHz...whoa.
I'm getting quite the same speed in Dolphin, the 2600K is everything I have ever dreamed of.
Sorry to revive this old thread, I got a little nostalgic browsing it.

Today I can't quite I belive what I did back then, but it sure was fun and it was a great discussion nevertheless.

I've been treating my baby very good ever since and she's running at stock speeds today.
This chip is one of the greatest ever created, dreams of the Ivy bridge makes the thoughts spark.
It's actually quite easy to overclock to 4.8GHz at 1.35vcore, and safe too.

Air cooling? That would be epic.
Yes it can be done on air cooling at a decent temperature if you have a REALLY GOOD air cooler like the Noctua DH-D14.
I overclocked an Core 2 Duo E7400 @ 2.8GHZ up to 3.6GHZ once on air with the stock cooler and the temps were pretty good.
That chip is still in use today in an older build and still going strong. It's not called Wolfdale for nothing, it's strong as an Wolf.

Cheap and simple as the stock cooler look I thought it was pretty decent to handle that OC with ease.

But I'm using these self-sustaining watercoolers today in the high-end builds with a push fan setup.
Couldn't be any better.

thats cause the wolfdale chips are cool as hell(fun fact,hell used to be chilly as fuck). in my system my E7500 ( 2,98Ghz ) it runs on 32(core1) & 29(core2)°C (and the fan is only doing 1500RPM) when idling/have firefox open. seeing how a P4 can run fine when its @ 80°C, you just know you have alot of space to OC the wolfdales Tongue
@Gabriel

Just curious what you consider "pretty good". What were the full load temps like on that E7400 system? They should be under 65 C to avoid long term damage and under 75C to avoid short term damage.
With "pretty good" I meant a value somewhere over 60 C but not over 65 C, it was a stock cooler after all and only one extra fan was mounted on the side of the chassi back then.

With the i7 2600K rig, the CPU is 23 C with Core 1, 2, 3, and 4 at 31-32 C and that is excellent values to me.
