here, it was just supposed to be an add-on to the existing Dolphin logo by Elratauru.
I just uploaded the stand-alone logo on request and also I think that Elratauru's logo would do a great job if scaled down properly.

I personally prefer a simple, single-focused design of a dolphin, as opposed to a multi-surfaced cube with specific game characters.
the name of the emulator is dolphin, it is used to emulate the gamecube and the wii. besides, dolphins are nice, cute, intelligent animals. :>
after downloading dolphin for my mac, as I was placing the icon onto my dock, I thought of how I would really like for that character to be a dolphin within a blue square instead of an old stock image of mario's victory pose.
