If anyone has been browsing the issues/svn updates lists, you may have seen that there is a issue about the emulator logo created by me so Im gonna copy-paste the first post about it.

We all know that Dolphin stable releases are a major point in the emulator, and we try to get the best of the svn until now. Since we're making something that important, I'd like to suggest to change that old-web 2.0 styled glossy logo to something more stylish and better from a design-wise point.

My point is just to change the logo to something else that would help the emulator to get a better and "cooler" look along the cleaner UI. The frontend on an emulator like this one should be clean and new-looking. I know this is not a competition either, but the pcsx2 people changed the design a while ago too, again, to something more stylish Wink

After getting lots of responses from some people and commiters, I finally reached a point where I created something that maintains dolphin look from the past icon and its personality.

Since dolphin uses a GNU GPL v2 licence, im gonna suggest to change the current icon for the RC 3.0 release to this one:

That's a 128px version, but it does look fine in 32px, 45px, 64px, 128px, 256px, 512px, and 1024px versions. The source is mostly vectorial, but I created it on a 1400px size.

It was made vector-like on PS, using simple but nice-looking shapes.

Also, the about dolphin section would be most likely changed to something like this too:

So yes. I'm looking forward to get some feedback and please, if you are gonna post "Its cool" or "I don't like it" please don't. I'm trying to get some constructive feedback if possible.

Also, for those that are curious and want to check the issue on the svn tracker, its on http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/issues/detail?id=4307

Are there any other options where the character is just standing there? Maybe outline the character in black? It's probably best to submit as many variations as you can so that the developers have more options to consider.

Well, adding outlines here, is a bad thing, mostly when trying to get a sleek-modern and "not-outdated-web2.0-like design".

The main colour pallet is kinda inspired on the Intel Core i logos, and as you can see on these ones, adding black would kill the design.

Also, If I created lots and lots of variations, a lot of people would be saying "I like this one" and some other people "I prefer this other one" and everything would be just a war of people asking for their "logo" to be used.

And that's one of the reasons Im not taking any subjetive opinions about it, Im trying to get something functional and nice looking for improving that old trending of that "Web 2.0" glossy stuff when the original logo was created.

For those who checked the issue thread on the SVN, will see that I tried lot of different logos/styles. One of these, was the same Mario render in 3D, it didnt looked bad, but for an icon? It was just bad. Remember that for smallers sizes we need something simple enough.
i think it would look better, if you have three different characters. one for each visible side of the cube. but the cube itself looks very good^^

Well, if I added a different character on each side, when reducing the icon to 32 x 32px it would just be a mess of pixels that you'll not be able to tell what that is. Using a main central character on the icon will keep everything clean and easy to see.

Remember that the icon must be at least 5 or 6 sizes. 32px (list view), 45px (tile view), 64px, 128px (large view) and 512px or 256px for the (extra large view) on Windows 7.
Sorry about the double-post buy this may be insteresting enough to justify it.

I have been playing with the design a little, and since Dolphin is a Wii-Gamecube-Triforce emulator, may be cool if the icon was like this:

Anyways, as I was saying in other posts, it would be nice if any developer contacted me so we could talk about it so we can get things "on the move" for 3.0
The thing is getting closer. The platforms logo currently are better than the cube with Mario silhouette (it's look like if they aren't inside the cube). Adding some transparency to the cube is good too.
dont know, but the triforce look a little...misplaced. maybe we (aka you Tongue) should change one of the symbols with the triforce or sth. anyway good job with the new cube.
You can't use something that so closely represents the actual Nintendo logos.
Jhonn: Transparency may break the clean looking Im looking for Tongue

rage: It is not misplaced, Its not centered on a side after all. The "bottom" part of it its looking at you so the top part is the one pointing to one of the cube vertex's.
Star: I know, and that's why I wanted to use a mario shape.

Problem Solved:

Left: Revolution, Right: Dolphin, top: Triforce (That's 3 triangles e_e)
