I'd prefer a proper explanation why such a simple convenient feature cant/hasnt been added when obviously the functionality to do so is there as shown by the ability to browse for an ISO directory.

You guys finally got with the times by adding per game settings, I'd think adding a convenience feature so you can simply browse for your saves rather than copy/paste is right up your streamlining preparing for 3.0 alley.

I'm very curious as to whether it's a limitation of the emulator, in which case that's all you have to say, but I doubt that's the case. So what is it? You took the time to respond, twice, and you say the answer is obvious, but you havent given one. And you seem a little defensive, so now I'm extra curious. The burden doesnt have to be on you specifically though, anyone can answer. I'm sure someone must know why... because you said it's like, all obvious and stuff.
Correct me if I'm wrong but simply deleting the Wii\user\config\portable file will make it look in appdata folder instead of the dolphin folder.

not quite that simple but with a little effort you could get all versions of dolphin to look there. (I'll leave the steps as a task for someone who wants to waste their time with it Tongue )
with the plugins being gone it wont be as much a problem as before with incompatible plugins between versions
you would miss out on gameini updates unless you manually moved them though

Quote:No easy way to do it, because user folder can change sometimes like when new configurations are added etc.

@Runo
I absolutely get that and that's partly why I've been harping on the subject because with that being the case doesnt that mean that copy/pasting the entire user folder from a previous revision would introduce the same problem if there's configuration differences?

I just think there has to be a better way to handle the whole thing while also removing the need to copy/paste anything.

It sure isn't as simple as just reusing the existing "browse for ISO dir" functionality (which is quite a naive idea anyway, but whatever)...

Yeah I dont copy the entire folder, this can indeed cause problems. I copy my memory cards and LLE dump.
If you copy dolphin.ini among other things and it was modified you might have problems.

People needs to stop looking at the svns like they were releases. Imagine Dolphin were a closed source program, you would have access only to the releases, witch are not often. I dont see anybody asking microsoft to create a way to import ALL of its settings from one to another, because everybody knows it will have different settings. When you download svns you have to copy manually that because you are using a version that's meant for the advanced user / beta-tester, who wont have problems doing this. The final user, witch will use the releases only, can do the configurations once when he gets the release.

Whenever you do a fresh windows install, even if you have a complete backup and etc, you still have to set up a bunch of things like drivers and etc, dont you? Tongue

EXACTLY! Thank you.

So

#1 This stock answer to the question that pops up here like once a week or so with people asking "How do I transfer my saves to a new revision?" of "Just copy your entire User folder" needs to change. You guys need to stop telling people to do that and tell them to just copy the title folder or whatever instead. But telling them to copy the whole User folder isnt good for them OR the devs because you're going to hear about bugs/etc that your causing by your own bad info.

OK genius but there IS a problem and while my suggestion might not be the way to do it, there HAS to be a better way that can be implemented than what is there currently. So what would that be is the question. That's for the devs to discuss and figure out, but the problem (or potential of problems) is obviously there. You'll save yourself a bunch of unnecessary bug reports and save users unnecessary steps of copy/pasting by addressing it, and in the end that's great for everybody all around. It would be quite naive to think otherwise.
