Steps to use newer builds on X64 XP (difficulty: 2/5, time required: 1 hour)
- Download Dolphin Source Code of the build you need
- Go to http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/source/detail?r=7294 and study the changed files.
- Change them back to the old values
- Compile and Enjoy :-)

A total of only two or three Dolphin users complained about the emulator no longer working on XP x64. Yes that's right, only two or three Dolphin users, I think that says a lot..

If you wish to compile an x64 version of Dolphin which will work on Windows XP x64 you can easily disable the two lines where USE_SRWLOCKS and USE_CONDITION_VARIABLES are defined.
Windows XP x64 was not designed for average users.
XP x64 users should be able to compile Dolphin with these minor changes.
I think requiring a bit of extra work out of XP x64 users is acceptable if it means slight performance improvements for the typical users of Windows Vista and 7.

Holy crap, there are people that are actually saying something useful! You guys win my 9001 internets.
Also I should have clarified before - here on my MAIN GENERAL-USE PC, the only thing I am CURRENTLY using XP 64bit for is Dolphin. I never said I didn't ever use it for anything else.

Diathorus's post was just stating the obvious, common sense, sure you could of figured that one out on you're own. The only really useful comment was Billiard's, keep in mind most of us here aren't developers though.
You should really upgrade when you get the chance, Dolphin would probably run slightly better on Windows 7 x64 than that pos XP x64.. OEM copies are cheap and you can probably get it even cheaper if you are a student. Absolutely no one should really be using XP x64, on your system there's not much benefit using 64-bit over 32-bit anyways.

Unless cheap is as cheap or cheaper than a Wii game, it's not cheap.

Windows 7 is often free for IT students.
