update (again) probably won't be built till at least summer when I get a summer job (and I started to build it sometime around...winter maybe?).

I haven't built it yet (I'm buying the parts as I get the money[which isn't very often] but I have already bought the mobo)

It will be fun to see how things turned out when it's done.
I think you did a good choice in terms of processor, Intel might be better and give better results but that ain't everything.

For me, better results equal everything, and that's why sticks with Intel. Currently, Intel has the speed, AMD doesn't and that's a fact. If I'm looking for a budget build, then maybe I would consider AMD, but even Intel have budget CPUs or pricing too. So, Intel all the way baby! lol.

Truth is that both the I5 2500K and I7 2600K is very cheap (at least here in Sweden) with prices that makes AMD less attractive.
But it will be nice to see how the Zambezi "Bulldozer" performs when it ships.

But just how profound is the difference between AMD and Intel? Where I live, the cheapest i7 is $305 that's the i7-950, 3.06GHz). AMD's Phenom II X4 3.2GHz is $145. Their six-core products start at $190 -- though I'm not sure to what extent Dolphin makes use of cores 5 & 6 (and Dolphin is my main reason for upgrading).

Is the difference really significant enough to more than double the price?

More importantly, for anyone who might know, how large would the difference be between my current CPU, a 2.3GHz Core 2 Duo, and the Phenom II X4 3.2GHz be? I'm not really looking to max everything out, I'd just like 100% speed native-res Zelda and Brawl, and don't know how hard I need to spend to get there.

I would say that their prices is justified to the extent of how much value and performance you get for the money you spend.

A I5 2500K costs around 1680:- SEK (256$) and a I7 2600K costs around 2440:- SEK (375$) here in Sweden compared to the Phenom II X6 1100T for around 1845:- SEK (284$)

So in this case it's more worth getting an I5 2500K if you want to play Dolphin full-speed.
And I don't recommend to bother with the Phenom II X4 3.2GHz if you're planning for CPU upgrade, I think the I5 2500K would be the best bet in every aspect.

If you can, I suggest you just get a 2500k. I upgraded from a stock e8400 to a 2500k and man, it was such a big difference. So far everything I threw at it ran at fullspeed even when using LLE and 1080p. Granted I oc'ed it to 4.5 but who doesn't overclock with these chips?

Okay, I have a really basic knowledge of computer specs, but i was wondering if this set up would run most/any games on the Dolphin?
OS: Windows Home Premium 64 bit
Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1075T, Six Core (AM3, 3.00GHz, 9MB Cache)
Motherboard: Asus M4A87TD-EVO, 4xDIMM, Max. 16GB, ATX (USB 3.0, SATA 3.0)
Memory: 8GB (4 x 2GB) Mushkin PC10600 1333MHz DDR3
Graphics Card: nVidia GTX 460 1GB

Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks,
NathanAngel

That would easily run games at full speed, except for games that use EFB to RAM AND LLE
You might want to over clock it to like 3.5GHz or more.
