Is SMBWii really enjoyable without the spinning coins, block animations and other framebuffer effects? I don't think so.
Try it with EFB to RAM (the way it's meant to be played) and see if you can get a playable speed even at 640x480

um...yes? Who gives a shit if the coins don't spin. It's just as fun.

Have you built it yet? If that's the case how did it turn out?
The specs are perfectly fine (saw you upgraded the processor, good choice)
As you said Dolphin isn't the only thing you will run so it's enough.

If you're building a gaming computer, L3 Cache = gaming performance, period.

If L3 = gaming performance, then I'm curious.
Which of the processors that I have is better suited for gaming?
My Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 with 12MB L2
or
my AMD Phenom II X6 1100 BE with 3MB L2 and 6 MB L3
I have read that the L3 cache is somewhat slower then the L2, all of this is making me confused.

I haven't finished building it yet (I'm too poor :p), and I looked on newegg and saw that the 840 was only $10 more so I figured it was worth it

Ah OK, so is this going to be your first build or have you built other rigs?
If it's your first, then all I have to say is that it's a cake walk literally.
Potentially there is things that could go wrong but spend an extra hour more then regret it later.
And as always don't over use the thermal paste, just a smooth even layer.
Cable management is important and good airflow.
