Hi there...

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of the best build for my HTPC. I want to run New Super Mario Bros. with the EFB copy to RAM setting at 60fps or close to it, so I don't have to deal with invisible blue coins. With the build I have now, I can achieve about 45fps in most levels with EFB copy to RAM enabled, full speed with EFB to Texture. My Specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.4 Ghz
8 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3 RAM
MSI R5770 Hawk 1GB X2 in CrossfireX
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Thanks!!!!
If you're getting 45 fps with efb to ram then you will likely get roughly that amount in all builds. And that seems about right for your hardware. You can't expect to just fix these problems by using a different build. All you can do is try an SSE3 optimized build from lectrode/xtreme2damax and hope for the best.
yep phenoms only use regular and sse3

but i can't find any difference
Out of curiosity, which of his fairly considerable system components would need upgrading in order to get full performance with efb--> ram enabled?

Are AMD processors just not up to chop for dolphin? Are the newer X6 cpus any better off or is this more of a video card issue?

CPU, mobo, ram.

Although no matter what you do their is no way to guarantee you'll get no performance drop from using efb to ram ever.

That depends on how you look at it. They're not as good as intels i3/i5/i7 cpus. Phenom II deneb is essentially on par with core 2 quad. Slightly lower performance per clock but slightly higher clock rates, usually yielding the exact same performance.

His video card is fine unless he wants to use 3x efb scale + 4xSSAA. And no the X6 cpus are not any better for dolphin since dolphin only uses 2 threads anyways.
you could try overclocking your ram to 1600mhz.

you typically wanna use bios to do this. overclocking guide

I think that most people have never overclocked anything.
BTW why do you suggest him to change his RAM ? Is Dolphin performance really limited by RAM frequency ?
