I'm on r6897 and I'm seeing the difference, it's not really that big for 4x, try 9x and find a good contrast. Remember, although SSAA is costly, it delivers the same quality for the edges as regular edge antialiasing, which you would usually set to 16x for really high quality
@KHRZ
For the third time. It was working fine before, now it's not.
I noticed something was off when I did link to the pasts gpu benchmark.

Marios hat for example is less smooth with 4xSSAA enabled.

edit: however r6837 is working fine for me, no problems with SSAA.
Yes if your base internal resolution is higher than your physical display resolution and you're using bilinear scaling adding SSAA will INCREASE the amount of aliasing in a scene, that's just common sense. The best overall image quality is achieved with fractional + SSAA.
So guys .... We must try to resolve the problem by looking to see from where comes.

First step: Before posting any negative feedback with the SSAA, post the name of your video card.

Watch to see if it is a problem arising from the GeForce graphics cards ...

For example, I with my AMD 5850 work perfectly with SSAA (SSAA tested with Wii Resident Evil Rebirth - Shadow On The Wall)

So people who have a video card and AMD did not have problems:
IceD_X / emu-muncher / SquallL (Got and AMD card?)

Nvidia users with this issue:
slax / NaturalV

We collect this information, and talk with the developers.

Thanks to all who contribute to "test".

I don't think its because of my video card, as i said --> NOTE: All settings are the same in both versions :

--> above r6385 (very good ssaa, though it's set to x4 it's almost like x9 without slowing down games at all)

--> down r6919 (one of the newest versions, very bad ssaa if you set it to x4, almost like nothing, if you set it to x9 it's even not as good as in r6385 with x4 and slows down games very much)

and i think its more important on what kind of monitor or tv you play those games, cause you can hardly notice this issue on a normal pc-monitor, than on a hd ready-tv like i use.. (1360*768)
especially you can see this issue on "small" objects when the camera zooms out in games

my opinion:

the best revision i've ever tried is 6385, revisions before and after have many minor issues ... and i've started testing since r4845 so i know what i'm talking about when i say r6385 is the best version so far... you should look what this versions makes so well working Wink

I can definitely confirm the AA problems w/DX9 in recent revisions. Using a 5870. There's either no or bad effect, and enabling AA now just slows games down waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than it should.

This happened right around the same time DKCR was released, but it looks like you guys already know that. Try looking at revisions ~2 weeks before DKCR came out (Nov 21 2010) might narrow your search.
Ayame Thanks for your contribution.

So. Here we have a quality/performance regression

Guys the problem occurs only with Dx9?
Has anyone tried DX11 or OpenGL?

We need to report the problem to Devs...

I was just coming back to report about DX11. AA is messed up there too. It looks like it has better AA with AA disabled than with 8x enabled. And the performance hit is killer. There's no way it should make that much of a hit.
Thanks again for immediatly reply Smile

So. Now we need to wait other guys to test this in Dx11 and OpenGL.
Then we can report this issue to devs.
