Am I just imagining the speed increase? Usually when I play Mario Kart Double Dash (ALSA), I get mostly 60 fps with drops into the 50's and occasionally the 40's. With OpenAL, it seemed like a much steadier 60 fps and it never went below 50. Perhaps I was just playing in a faster area of the game today.

So I guess I won't get to see those blue coins until I upgrade my hardware then. D3D9 does fix things in some games though doesn't it?

Yes. In my opinion it's the most reliable of the three. Some games do actually have fewer issues with opengl but most games have the fewest visual/graphical issues with d3d9.

Unfortunately nothing short of an i3/i5/i7 setup can achieve the memory throughput needed to use efb to ram without slowdowns in most games.
