Quote:hey guys is there any reason to have a better graphics card than a 5870 or gtx 470 currently for dolphin?I have a i7 920 @3.4ghz and radeon 5870 and im getting slowdown with fraps on at 2560x1600 on games like twilight princess, resident evil,no more heroes and Metroid.Without fraps on however they run 100% almost all the time iv tested here tonight but can still dip a bit.Just wondering if getting a gtx 580 and overclocking a i72500 or 2600 to 4.2ghz or more will fix this or should i just keep waiting for better hardware still.Planning to do high quality lets plays this year of ps2 and wii games

That depends. A 5870 is sufficient for basically almost any game with a 3x efb scale + 4xSSAA. A GTX 580 would likely not have any benefit unless you plan on using 9xSSAA or pixel lighting. Fraps will tank your framerate if you record at a high resolution with a lightning fast HDD, CPU, and a crapload of ram.
I record on a different hard drive.I have 12 gigs of ddr 3 ram so that is not the issue.Playing and recording at 1920x1200 has fixed the issue but the games certainly do not look as good to me fullscreen at 2560x1600.If dolphin supported sli and crossfire i probably would be fine.I was thinking of selling my 2 radeon 5870's and i7 920 for a gtx 580 and a i72600k but my pc gaming would than sufferSad

"but my pc gaming would than sufferSad"
how is that a downgrade? GTX580 is top of the line
(5870CF is not that much fps higher than one 580)

Use the latest version of fraps, it might fixed your issue.
True.do you game at 2560x1600? i see you have i5 2500 at 4.5ghz.yes I'm using fraps 3.2.7
No. My screen is 1080p res. So before you were using a older build of fraps? Did the latest version fixed your issue?

Fraps drops framerates on everything, unfortunately. The problem is just accentuated in actual PC games, but it can't be stopped on dolphin either
(unless the game is so light it runs at 60fps either way)
I'm trying to sell my i7 920 at 3.4ghz for $200 and than get a i72500k and overclock it to 4.4ghz.I hate any limitations if there is something i can do about itSmileI'v been gaming at 2560x1600 since 2007 i'm not gonna give it up because the world wants 1080 p to be the normBig Grin

Just got the 2500k, if anyone wants me to test games, let me know
Finally got my 2500k rig together and got it at 4.8ghz@1.35v stable. 5ghz is looking it needs 1.42-1.45v so I'm just happy at 4.8.
