Not really. Honestly it takes only a few seconds to copy the folder contents over.
There are some serious usability issues that should be taken care of... It would be nice if a few basic Windows design standards where followed, like having an install procedure, and separating the config files (and game saves) from the program directory itself. At the very least, it would be nice if these where user configurable.
This may be asking too much - I'm a Unix developer where design standards are strictly adhered to because it makes maintaining the code and installations easier. Accomplishing the same thing in Windows might be too tough - i have to idea.
Pcsx2 have something like that. Maybe the devs can learn a thing or two from it...

dolphin is fine just the way it is. i dont and will never like an emulator making use of the appdata folders, they should remain portable.

Talk to the devs. They're tell you their opinions on the matter, maybe that had a good reason for it.

Just spoke to the devs. This will be user configurable in the future. I can't wait either. I plan on keeping my configs and game saves in DropBox so that those are in sync across all of my machines (three Macs and a Windoze 7 box).
Thats what I call portable.
It's revision 6498 (from before the fifo changes were commited which have caused reduced performance and stuttering in many games), 64 bit, and compiled with sse3 instructions allowed (dolphin is normally compiled with an sse2 flag and some newer instruction optimizations are applied at runtime). Also that build has several useful patches applied to fix things in various games and add some useful game properties options.
