Hello. I have a Core2duo running Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit. I just installed Dolphin from the ppa:glennric/dolphin-emu. When I tried to load Mario Bros Wii, It got to the screen that says to hold the wii remote sideways and then crashed. Running Dolphin again in the terminal gave me the following:

Segmentation fault

The segmentation fault at the end seems to be causing the crash. Does this indicate a bad rom? I plan to try a different one to see if that's the case, but I thought I would post this with the hope that someone familiar with Dolphin would notice a problem. If other roms crash as well, what would you try next?
I think i have a similar (if not the same) problem, Ill get through a few seconds emulation and then there'll be a random crash and the window will close, ending with a seg fault in the terminal. I started a thread about it not long ago before seeing this haha

I saw this but it confused me a little

thanks to anyone who can help

Thanks for the reply. It's nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem. Your symptoms and terminal output are identical to mine, except that you are using svn6733 and I had svn6722. I just updated to svn6733 with no change. I've tried a few other games as well, and all of them fail rather quickly with a segmentation fault. Did you install Dolphin through ppa:glennric/dolphin-emu as well? I'm hoping that Glennric will get it fixed in the next update, but I'm not sure if it's a problem with my system or with the build.
Yeah I installed it from that ppa too, I've hardly found anyone in the same position as me so it's got to be a pretty rare problem,
You're right, it does seem like many people are having success with Dolphin in Ubuntu. I was able to watch the entire intro to Super Mario Sunshine and the quality was great. Once I pushed start though, you guessed it, segmentation fault. We might just have a few bad roms, but it says here that the build is for 10.10.

I hope you are using 10.04 too, and that it's the problem. I'll try it out with 10.10 and see what happens.
I'm using 10.10 :/
I tried dolphin today on a different computer, Ubuntu 10.10 on a pentium 4 with a geforce 5200 and 2GB ram. I was able to hear the Mario Bros Wii music while I looked at a blank screen. I think we must have a hardware issue. I'm using an E8400 3 GHz Core2Duo with 4 GB ram, but I think my problem is that I'm trying to use an Intel 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller. It runs compiz and other 3d stuff fine, but maybe there is some kind of driver problem. It might just not be new enough for dolphin. What are you using?

Can anyone recommend a cheap video card known to work with dolphin in Ubuntu?

Would this one get the job done?

I have a geforce 5200 on my windows pc and ive been told its not good enough to properly run dolphin

Im not with my ubuntu laptop atm, but I can tell you its dual core with 2gigs of ram, and also runs compiz and 3d stuff fine.
Yeah, I didn't think the P4/Geforce 5200 machine would be able to keep up with dolphin. I had the same experience you did with the black screen and audio. I just tried it to see if it would crash, and it didn't. That tells me that some piece of hardware in my computer, the one I want to run dolphin on, is causing a problem. I suspect the integrated graphics because I've had problems with Intel chipset drivers for Ubuntu in the past. I'd love to know what kind of graphics card you have in your laptop when you get a chance to look. The Intel 82G33/G31 that I have is said to meet the requirements (pixel shader 2.0, etc.) but maybe it will only work properly in windows. I may try to run it in xp, but I'd prefer not to. I only have the 32 bit version of windows anyway, which would probably be slow. I'll try a new graphics card, and see if that does the trick.

I wish someone could tell me whether the Geforce 9500 will run dolphin well in Ubuntu.
My laptop is sporting, according to the lspci command, 'VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller' which I think (take with a pinch of salt) meets the requirements. I think i might try it in an XP virtual machine inside ubuntu, would that work?
