Hello,

I know that it must be terrible to answer to the same questions (related to speed) all the time like "Why is dolphin slow?", but I'll try not to ask so generic questions...

Question 1: Does Dolphin use all my 4 logical cores (Intel Quad Core 2.66 Ghz) or does it use only 2 logical cores (Dual Core option)?

Question 2: What is the faster graphical plugin, OpenGL or Direct3D in Windows? And in Linux?

Question 3: Is Dolphin faster in Linux Kubuntu 10.10 32bit (in my case, I don't have any real-time anti-virus or firewall installed on it) than in Windows 7 32bit?

Question 4: Can I run games like 007 GoldenEye (Wii Game) at 720p or 1080p at full speed (in the case is 60 FPS because it's an NTSC game) in my PC (my PC specifications are below)?

Question 5: I heard that the lowest the revision of Dolphin the faster it is because it has minus compatibility with new games because of it's lack of new functions and bug fixes. Is that true (I tested 007 GoldenEye in Dolphin 5411 and it has an average of 90% of speed, but in the release 6601 this turns into 60% of speed - I used the same confuguration at both)?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My PC Specifications:

Processor: Intel Quad Core Q6700 2.66 Ghz

Motherboard: Intel DG35EC

Memory (RAM): 4 GB DDR2 800 Mhz Kingston,

Graphical Card: NVIDIA Geforce 9600 GT 512 GDDR3 on a PCI Express x16 Slot (Proprietary Driver Installed: 258.96 (on Windows 7) and 260.19.12 (on Linux Kubuntu 10.10))

HDD: 500 GB SATA2 7200 RPM (don't know the brand)

Partitions of the HDD: 3 partitions (one for Windows 7 (FileSystem: NTFS) ; the other for Linux Kubuntu 10.10 (FileSystem: EXT4) ; and the other for DATA (the Dolphin Emulator is here - FileSystem: NTFS))

OS: Dual Booting (Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit (with DirectX 11) ; Linux Kubuntu 10.10 32bit (with Wine 1.2.1 and OpenGL))

Antivirus on Windows: Bitdefender Total Security 2010 (I turn on the Game Mode when I want to use Dolphin)

Performance Programs Installed on Windows: TuneUp Utilities 2011 (I turn on the Turbo Mode with all of it's functionalities on when I want to use Dolphin) and PerfectDisk Pro 11 (I defrag my OS drive and the drive where Dolphin is almost all the time I see it's fragmented or when the PC is idle this program does it Automatically)

Thanks for your help and sorry for the tons of questions Smile,

André M.

Dual is not = Quad, so when the option says "Dual"... what do you think?

On Windows it's always DirectX, if not then there's no such option.
And Linux does not feature DirectX except if emulated (in which case, you'll have slower speed)

Applications will never be faster on Linux than on Windows, simply because Hardware support in Linux is worse than in Windows.

Your CPU seems nice... I don't know about Goldeneye, but I guess it might run fullspeed.
Your GPU however might have some troubles if you have AA enabled.

Hard to say. Some revisions have better speed, because they were optimised. Some revisions might be faster but might crash at certain points of the game.
