Hello, first of all, very much thanks to all the brilliant people making dolphin a reality.

Now that that's said, I have a frustrating problem with dolphin, or maybe it's my computer. I've run dolphin on windows x86, x64, and windows 7 x64 and the same thing occurs. in windows xp x64 and windows 7 the games will run very well, but then all of a sudden the emulator will slow to about 50% speed for a minute or two, I can actually pause the emulator and wait it out and have the performance go back to 100% just from waiting a couple of minutes. Needless to say this is less that ideal in the middle of some 4 player split-screen action. Has anyone else had this problem?

I think I've tried every different configuration option in dolphin with no change in this situation.

Interestingly, messing with various northbridge settings in the bios seemed to have affected the frequency of the problem, for example, I'd get through 2-3 rounds of fighting in Naruto 3 before a slowdown, then after the changes in the bios it would occur early in the first round.

I run an AMD quad core 2.6 GHz with 4GB of ram and an ATI HD 4600 video card that barely breaks a sweat while dolphin is running.

Thanks for the help / responses
I'm willing to bet you're using a recent revisions. Recent revisions have stuttering issues, it will be awhile until they are fixed. In the meantime try using an older revision, what games do you use?
Thanks for the quick response, after days of struggling with this I finally figured it out. My power supply is only a 250W, I unplugged the cd drive that doesn't work anymore anyway and no more slow downs, I'm probably going to get a 400W eventually.

I use the Jack frost releases on this website they have an M after the revidion number like 6541M, they work much better than the official releases as far as performance

That shouldn't improve performance. Insufficient power would cause instability or shutdowns but not a reduction in performance, maybe you just needed to restart dolphin?

In my experience with undervolting processors (not necessarily the entire computer) you CAN reduce the power consumption of the PROCESSOR without any ill effects if done correctly. (if not, it can cause serious stability issues included BSODs) also to increase the distribution of power you should lower the amount of RAM the computer is allowed to use in the BIOS (this can save some power as long as you only trim off unnecessary RAM ;again same ill effects may be experienced if you take too much) On a final note, make sure you have all the newest drivers for power consuming parts of the computer for a little extra efficiency. Glad I could help and renember: I take no responcibility for the ill effects of badly configured underwatting or damages from RAM modifications(always look it up and know what you are doing!!!)

EDIT: for performance boosts try using certain software (be careful to avoid spyware!!!) that boost RAM and CPU utilization and if you feel you are computer savvy, try overclocking your processor for a boost.
Note: I am NOT responcible for any and all damages that my advice may cause and always get a second opinion. (please know what you're doing!!!)
fwiw, I seriously doubt that those "performance boosters" are useful for Dolphin...
apply ccleaner, defrag, antispy if not run.
Mandatorily format you computer
You will be use win7 64 bits. (becarefull with drivers, aply one test, other and test. it's probably that drivers run very slow)
Bluesoleil is not good idea (is very slowww, beleave me)... use toshiba bluetooth stack it's incredible more speed (run with any doggle).
In dolphin use for begin test D9D 640x480 in fullscreen disabled fog, aa and lighting.

With you Quad... wow must be obtain minimum 45 fps.

What version will you say we should get then ??? ;0)
I honestly have no idea when it started. Try 5981.
fyi, it's definitely a failing psu causing this, I tested this on numerous different types of software with the same symptoms, and I'm talking wiped out and fresh software, it's got to be the hardware. Strange indeed, must be a symptom of these new quad core setups. The fact that dolphin ran perfect for an hour after unplugging my cd drive, now it's worse to the point that I need to unplug my tv tuner for my wireless network card to work! And even when it connects it gets low signal strength even though it's 15' from the access point.

New power supply arriving tomorrow Big Grin
