Remember pentium/celeron/etc. are just "box names", a label that they slap on the box of a product, they aren't the name of an actual chip they are just what marketing decides to call a product.
@moerik
It would help A LOT. THe difference between those two cpus is night and day. However it would help if we knew your other system specs.
My other specs:
PSU: Orion 585 watts, 20A on +12v rail
GPU: EVGA GT220 FTW OC 20%
MB: Nvidia MCP73 LGA775
RAM: 3GB DDR2 ram @800mhz
HDD: 2 Sata 320GB WD
Wall-mart PC trying to upgrade it slowly, the MB, CPU and HDD are still pending for up-grades, GPU, PSU and RAM are up-graded, slowly.
You have enough ram but the video card also needs to be upgraded. If you want to stick with nvidia grab at least a 450 or higher while if you want to go for ati try and grab a 5750 or higher.
Then later on grab a good aftermarket air cooler and a new psu and overclock that new cpu and you will be fine.
