If your laptop fails due to hardware malfunction (like DOA) your standard warranty will cover it. Standard warranties come with laptops (even if they aren't advertised) and last a year. If you haven't had any issues with your laptop for a year anything that goes wrong after that is probably your fault.

I'm saying buying extended warranties is silly. I personally have one because Sony gave me mine for free... so why wouldn't I? I've never had any problems that were covered by the warranty.
