Quote:SSAA disabled and EFB Scale at 2x is essentially the same as 2.5 SSAA according to what was mentioned in the past, by rodolfo himself I believe.

he should buy glasses -_-
Well I forgot the specifics, but there is still a way to get quality similar to 2.25 SSAA without the performance hit of higher SSAA such as 4x and 9x.

Right, I'm sure everyone in this thread understand what AA does. Setting the EFB scale at 2X has nothing to do with the edges of 3d objects, so I don't understand how that is essentially the same as any form of anti-aliasing.
Sorry Xtreme but I have to agree with MFZ. If rodolfo really did say that then he was on some heavy drugs. SSAA and efb scale serve two completely different functions.
Yes they are different, but do similar things. Try changing efb scale while playing to see what I'm talking about. Objects, especially distant objects appear more smooth and clear just like when enabling AA/SSAA. EFB scale is changing the internal resolution to make everything appear more smooth, so it is essentially anti-aliasing in a sense. The option was even renamed to reflect that the option is used to change the internal resolution.

And yeah I understand what AA does. You should talk to rodolfo, he is on IRC sometimes and should be able to explain this better than myself.
yeah, I guess he just meant something like both EFB scaling and SSAA make the image appear smoother... I mean, EFB scaling is pretty much like a high resolution, right?

And yes, just enable 2x EFB scale, this essentially has the same effect as 2.25 SSAA without the performance hit. It's just when you start using SSAA that the performance hit occurs. It was requested in the past to bring back 2.25 SSAA, thing is that it wasn't ever really removed, as 2x EFB scale achieves the same effect. I forgot where this was mentioned by rodolfo, it was in one of the commits.

Similar, not the same. EFB scale makes the image more detailed and crisp by increasing the resolution while the other blurs it to hide imperfections. Personally i would pick a higher efb scale than SSAA any day. Just try native res with 9xSSAA and then 3x efb scale without antialiasing... While they might look similar, the crispness of the higher internal resolution and it's details win hands down. It's like comparing an interpolated low res photo to an actual high res photo of the same scenery.
Higher resolution does not address jagged edges, and SSAA blur is subject to texture size in the first place.
So it was valid when I said I'd like to have 3x EFB scale + 2x SSAA ^^
Funny, I don't notice any jagged edges when I use EFB scale, everything is usually crisp and clear. It's more effective than AA imho, however with AA enabled as well it is even more detailed.
