Does it make sense somewhere that enabling dual-core on a single-core PC would provide some sort of a speed-boost for some reason in some games? I do notice smoother game-play on some occasions when I test this with some of the games I test. What ends up happening is the fps is not accurate but the actual smoothness of certain games is better at times opposed to using single core.
Yes, it makes sense because the games where there is a speed-up use the FIFO intensively. The extra thread hands over the PC's CPU to the video emulation in a more consistent manner making the game appear smoother. The CPU emulation would be getting a corresponding reduction in the PC's CPU time, but the Wii's CPU is probably idling at those times so the slowdown is not noticeable.
Late last year, Dolphin used an extra thread for the Wii's DVD emulation. After removing the thread, most games did not exhibit any slowdown. But some did - same effect.
I have the same problem, but the room that gives me tons of lags is the Main Hall. But I have dual core CPU.

That's normal especially if you are using Copy EFB -> Ram on weaker hardware. The only way to fix it or alleviate it is by using Copy EFB -> Texture which may or may not help depending on your hardware.

No, I'm using EFB->Texture, I have pretty powerful hardware and I've been generally experimenting with settings a lot to successfully get the best speed. The Main Hall, however (only one part, actually, in the location where the screen shows the stairway and two eastern doors on the first floor), is still about 3 times slower than any other location in the game (most others run absolutely OK). I assume it's because of the wide reflecting floor area, but the author of the topic named other locations, so maybe the reason is different. Or the reasons for our slowdowns are different.
Huh, funnuly though, when I turned off Dual Core, the slowdown in the Main Hall disappeared. Well, sensible though. In Left 4 Dead, for example, multicore mode produces lags on multicore PCs.
Well what is your hardware, slowdowns are common for weaker hardware. For example, I get full speed constantly with my Core2Duo E8500 system and my Core i7 system, even with Copy EFB -> Ram.
