Like I said before, try the GCPad New plugin.
If you don't have it, re-download Dolphin 2.0. (it might not have always included GCPadNew)

Or, download a recent svn build of Dolphin, what many people use instead of Dolphin 2.0 as it is getting old.

Never mind found out the problem, had to use the other one not the new one and now i get to play gamecube games, just waiting for my wii mote to be returned and ill be playing Wii aswell

You want to set Port 1,2,3,4 (or whichever pads you will use) to "Standard Controller".

You can't select a pad plugin in r6167 because newer revisions don't support pad plugins. They have GCPadNew built in.
Just click the big "GCPad" button on the toolbar or go to "Options->Gamecube Pad Settings" to configure your controller.
