Even if it works, which I doubt, (how can simple text increase speed? game bugged?) it's only for 0.1% of all Wii games.
i will post an updated video in a few hours proving you wrong.
Okay, that's fine, haha... if it really works I'll stand with open eyes...
And thanks for the effort for proving your point...
It doesn't work plain and simple, I don't know what you insist on trying to prove. Test with fraps as mentioned and you will see that actual FPS is no different. This has pretty much been shot down, rose up and shot down again so I don't really know why you feel the need to keep arguing something that is already known, that it doesn't work. And even the developers thing you guys are full of it, as they have tested and confirmed what myself and few others have been trying to tell you.
There is no friggin' way a text overlay at the program level would increase speed, the fps may be doubled but the actual game speed remains the same. You know, I would rather have the developers actually work on improving the emulator rather than implementing useless hacks/features that have negligible benefits in regards to performance.
D'oh! :/
Anyways I'm done, hopefully the developers will pop in and provide additional information. Arguing is not my style nor is it something I like to engage in as it bothers me when other people argue, I've already argued more than I should have which is not engaging in any arguments/debates at all. If and when you can post comparison videos, I'll take the time to review them and provide my thoughts. I remain skeptical until then considering the developers have stated there is no way this would improve performance so I trust what they say.
I would also provide information such as system specifications, emulator settings, and what you have set in your bios. Let us know if you have speedstep or cool n' quiet enabled in your bios as that can offer a legit explanation as to why you get better performance if you indeed do. Be sure that your videos have the fraps FPS overlay enabled while playing. For accurate comparison you need to play through the same exact area, same situation, exact same settings except one video without the overlay enabled and one with the overlay enabled.

lol

just give me some time bro.
I'll upload a comparison video as requested.
while I do agree that devs should be spending their time fixing errors and glitches, it wouldnt hurt to look into this if it actually works.
Ok,
this is the first video that i actually talk during recording. Im fairly new at it so if I come off as a newbie it's because I am so dont bash me.
I noticed the video has language that may be offensive to some, so if you have a problem with words then please dont watch the video.
To my knowledge this only works on computers with a processor speed of 2.1 duo and lower. If your computer is uber or any good, then it will most likely not work or no difference will be seen. If your video card is of 125mb then dont even bother cuz that's way too low.
It will only work on some revisions.
It will only work on some games.
(Mario Kart displays fake FPS confirmed on multiple computers)
The video was recorded last night, so I will make a video applying the extras you guys PMed me this morning up untill now. I know this will not be enough to convince, so I'll make two vids, one with everything normal and one with text overlayed. But for now this will have to do.
Here are my settings:
ASUS G60 Laptop
Intel duo 2.1(overclock off)
4gb RAM
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260m 1gb
Bios: factory settings
Dolphin r5982 x64
Settings checked
enable duo core
HLE the IPL
JIT recompiler
1024x768 res
Direct3D9
hires texture loading(my card can handle it)
EFB Scaled copy
Disable fog
EFB copy to texture
(in game, xfb enabled and overlay statics enabled)
here's the link to the video
(video obsolete, catch latest bellow)
video done using Basara since it's my most demanding game and i can confirm text working
I dont know what speedstep and cool n' quiet are.
The laptop is on factory settings. I have an Intel processor.
2nd video on two separate runs comming soon.
Punchout video comming soon
ajaxxx ~ nice job !
maybe developer should take a look at it
Yup, definitely sounds like a cool n' quiet or speedstep issue, you can disable these in you bios since you mentioned you are using factory default setting.
For Intel and possibly AMD disable speedstep/cool n' quiet and thermal throttling. Your processor is probably underclocking itself to stay cool and enabling the overlay somehow un-throttles your processor, same thing happened to me a while back on an old/less powerful system and running wmp in the background. I learned once I posted about it that speedstep/cool n' quiet and thermal throttling were likely the culprits.
Let me guess, you must also be using Windows XP? Note that I only confirmed this with the x64 build at the time since this was before Dolphin became open source and there were svn builds, the 32-bit build was slow as hell back then.
I'm sure this has nothing to do with Dolphin.

Speedstep is a technology Intel uses that lowers the processor speed to lower the cpu's power consumption when it is not needed. Unfortunately i don't have Basara but with every other game i tested the fps indication was definitely wrong (including Samurai warriors 3). Like Xtreme said, even if it got speed up it wasn't probably due to the text, but because something else was holding up your cpu before.
I went ahead and made one final video where I ran 2 consecutive short play throughs in one sitting.
According to settings in the bios, Speed Step was indeed enabled. It has been set to Disabled for the purpose of this video.
Didnt seem to make a differance weather it be set on or off though.
Anyways, I'm done here. Anyone with a low end processor can give it a shot and see if they can get their barely playable games to be playable (not all games will work) and only on some revisions.
I dont really care if anyone picks this up, as long as dolphin becomes less power consuming in the future I'll be happy.
If anything I could just wait till I get home and play my wii instead. But it'll be nice to achieve full speeds on my laptop, even from work.
Here is the final video. Enjoyz

you read too far dummy, the video is above

Weird. :o
It shouldn't affect performance, but it seems to somewhat work although I'm sure there is an explanation. There are a very few games this works with though and it requires XFB to be enabled
Tell me if you get the same result by running wmp in the background, cause that would mean it does the same thing as running wmp in the background if both have the same result. The game seems to run slightly faster, just not as fast as the fps counter is displaying, definitely not 60 fps as I could immediately tell.
i use the x64 version
btw nice video ajaxxx
