To all those who believe there is a speed boost use fraps.

It will give you the same indication with or without having the overlaying text box checked when xfb is enabled. It is a fake fps indication.

I'll make a video just for you using FRAPS when I get home ok Cool

Stay still at a certain point in Mario kart for example, enable it and then disable it in real time and see what the FPS indicator of Fraps says. If you move there isn't much point since the fps fluctuates anyhow in every game when you move or there is a lot of action on screen so it is difficult to tell especially when the differences are small (cough, none, cough). Only premade benchmarks by developers make sense (like in Batman Arkham asylum for pc) when you move since it is exactly the same scene.

Prove me wrong then, i 'll be waiting Big Grin.
I'll proof this ,speed boost is true (no fraps here) but it only work for a few games such as Sengoku Basara 3
It work better than those useless watchdog
No overlay text box : 100% (max enemy unit)
Enable it : 200-250% what the hell
Here is the link to an updated video. I'll post 2 more (comparison videos) when I have the time.

Here are my settings:
ASUS G60 Laptop
Intel duo 2.1(overclock off)
4gb RAM
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260m 1gb
Bios: factory settings
Dolphin r5982 x64
Settings checked
enable duo core
HLE the IPL
JIT recompiler
1024x768 res
Direct3D9
hires texture loading(my card can handle it)
EFB Scaled copy
Disable fog
EFB copy to texture

here's the link to the video
(video obsolete newest down bellow)

video done using Basara since it's my most demanding game and i can confirm text working
I'm not seeing any speed boost at all with this enabled. It seems that only certain people with certain hardware can benefit from this if any.

Correct, it doesnt work on my gaming rig. Only on my laptop
Disable speedstep or cool n' quiet in your bios. It's obvious you have these enabled since you mentioned your bios is using factory default settings. That likely explains any speed increase (if any), similar to how I got a speedup running Windows Media Player or another app in the background on an old AMD64 x2 system. I later found out that cool n' quiet or speedstep was the culprit for the lower performance, because it throttled my cpu speed. Running an app in the background un-throttled the processor while playing. I presume this overlay might have the same effect as running an app such as wmp in the background did.

But the overlay itself is likely not the cause of the speedup, the developers pretty much were confident that in no way would this improve speed. There is just no possible way for a text overlay at the program level to speed up execution of the code, that's where better hardware comes into play as emulators such as Dolphin and Pcsx2 are almost entirely cpu dependent..

Btw, where is the other video? I'm still awaiting comparison videos using the same settings, except one video without the overlay enabled and one without. Be sure to also enable the fraps fps overlay for the videos as well.
Since this is the main page for this topic, I posted here aswell.

I went ahead and made one final video where I ran 2 consecutive short play throughs in one sitting.
According to settings in the bios, Speed Step was indeed enabled. It has been set to Disabled for the purpose of this video.
Didnt seem to make a differance weather it be set on or off though.
Anyways, I'm done here. Anyone with a low end processor can give it a shot and see if they can get their barely playable games to be playable (not all games will work) and only on some revisions.
I dont really care if anyone picks this up, as long as dolphin becomes less power consuming in the future I'll be happy.
If anything I could just wait till I get home and play my wii instead. But it'll be nice to achieve full speeds on my laptop, even from work.

Here is the final video. Enjoyz Tongue

you read too far dummy, the video is above Big Grin
it seems like it might have a 5-10 fps increase after i watched it and compared it...idk tho it really goes up adn down more often with speed....not talking about fps either i wasnt watching that at all.
