The first thing that comes to my mind is that the wii hardware is incredibly slow.
It would not be able to emulate games at acceptable framerates on linux like when they are played natively without emulation.
Unless you somehow optimized dolphin to work purely on PPC code using gekko without the x86 intepreter
The wii cannot output anything higher than 480p, its HARDWARE limited.
And just think about what you are asking, emulate hardware on itself, thats just nonsense.

I simply asked if anyone thought if Dolphin might be able to serve as a pseudo-Firmware upgrade through wii-linux.
Software up-scaling is not witch craft and it's been done before, no reason for some of you to be nasty trolls over it.
Upscaling is not true HD beside 480p scaled to 1080p wouldn't look good...
Without Nintendo involvement I doubt anyone could (or willing to) make what you want since, even in windows with all the convenience tools available, this is still a very difficult task.

They are just trying to inform you that changing the cable won't magically cause the wii to render at 1920 x 1080. And that isn't possible. The wii doesn't have enough edram to hold a framebuffer that big, it's simply not possible. If the wii had more memory you would be able to render games in 1080p, but you would have terrible framerates.
Well maybe he could be satisfied with Pong or Tetris in full 1080p glory...
