a damn, my 2 gb wont do much =( ... maybe for some GC games ...
Super mario bros wii compressed yeah Big Grin! (It will be like 570 MB~).
Quote:xd SD FTW!! how about SSD?

Depends on the memory controllers. SSDs range from being as slow as HDD (less than $150) on the low end to 900MB/s ($2,000-$4,000) on the high end for the industrial grade drives. To put that in perspective that's about as fast as ram was when we first got ddr (around 2000/2001). Most good SSDs cost between $200-$400 and have sequential read/write of between 200-250MB/s and random read/write of between 50-100MB/s. Which is about 4-5 times as fast as a good 7,200 rpm HDD. It should offer a nice improvement but it's still slow compared to ram.
would this work with 3gb of ram?

Depends on the background services you have running but yes it should with GC games, wii games are to big though.

Also I should point out that the title of this thread is misleading. "More speed without any hardware upgrades". Storing the game in memory instead of on optical or magnetic disks won't improve performance it will just prevent hanging/loading due to faster streaming of the data.

Yes, I just tried it and my system is a wee bit slower but if I run programs from the ramdisk they run faster.

Actually I have to object!

I just played Dragon Ball Z 2 for gamecube and I have to report a 20% speed boost!

I went from 80% game speed maximum to 105% speed maximum and 100% speed average.
Lol, just runned MK Wii from it and its fullspeed everywhere with 1 player, didnt test 2 yet.
darkshadw, did it run at fullspeed before?
No, at 80%.

Same for Dragonball Z Budokai 2

I think you are on to something good here

I can get 120% in DBZ2 if I use all of these at the same time:

- Use Game Booster
- Data Ram Disk
- A batch file that closes the explore and opens dolphin with high priority

All of those together gave me a 40% boost in speed, 20% of that came from Ram Disk

dude thanks for this discovery

Now I need to upgrade my laptops RAM to 4GB. If only my laptop supported more than 4GB...sigh......
