OK That is the right starting config and you should boot the game that way.
I didn't mention it before but also make sure you have "Enable Hotkeys" option enabled in graphic plugin settings, this is for letting you know what's going on when switching options while game is running.
When the game is booted to get rid of the ghosting effect "EFB to RAM" is casting to the image do this:
First using the d-pad of the wiimote, move around with the camera, and find a spot that has less drawings and more important no black outlines.
The blank sky is perfect, also a not too dark rock seen from very close is ok.
When you think you are in the right place switch to "EFB to Texture" by pressing "5" on the keyboard. If you also press button "1" on the wiimote at the same time the map pops up and helps to attenuate artifacts a little more.
If you are not satisfied with the result and have some artifacts overlapped to the screen you can press "5" two times to switch back to "EFB to RAM", find a better spot and repeat again.
At first seems like there's is no blank spot you can find on the game since there's something moving in every place, even sky, but when you get accustomed is very easy to find one.
The one shown in the map of my previous post is a good one, near the village ;-)
Just look up to the sky and adjust camera, you should find a spot without black outlined mountains or animated clouds in it, only plain blue/orange/dark blue color (according to day timings)
Amaterasu's head in the map is transparent but you can find it in the middle of the map, just above the village. The spot is there up to the mountain.

Make sure you have "Enable CPU Access" enabled, without this you can paint but no effect on it.
Also the area you are in is tricky since the sky is black, you can try look down to the lawn, it's almost working but not perfeclty clear.
A nice spot would be the top of the slope on the right if you face the bridge you cannot paint. Just look down on the lawn and press "5". The result will not be perfect as clear sky but will get the idea.
Looking down there will also inevitably include a little but permanent amaterasu shadow overlapped on the screen, so usually looking up is definitely better.
If you pass the river and go through the door you will find some nice rocks to get close to, there you will get a better result.
100% clear result can be made starting from village, when sky will start to look blue and not black.

Can you post a pic of that part where you said that painting the river isn't working? Because it looks like just you are getting stuck on that part. Are you pretty sure that you are painting all the possible places in there? At first I thought that I was stuck in there too, but then I realized that there were other parts to paint

Sorry to bump a 2-3 months old thread, but any luck with the Fan Menu? I mean, I really need to see the Stray Beads I got.
EDIT: BTW, with the newest Dolphin Builds, the game runs pretty well, but crashes very often.

I've been working on the Dolphin Wiki's page for Okami. I ventured to this thread and have been updating it with what I learned here. I have a question for you guys. Is there anyway around the river crash? I haven't been able to find a way around it, yet some of you guys have pictures from beyond it. I'm using the latest x64 build with DX9 (OpenGL glitched and crashed).

And feel free to mention anything I could improve with the wiki.
