Yes, intel has a variety of sockets like the old 775, and now the socket 1156/1366. Will you need to upgrade "tomorrow"? No. The last two mentioned sockets will be good for at least a decade if not more, just as the socket 775 was.

Mind you socket 775 processor still sell more than any nehalem series processor on the market, and it's ancient.

Why would you identify so strongly with something that is just a brand? Anybody can own anything, it's just a matter of money. It's simple. If you want performance get an intel. If you want a good budget cpu, buy from amd.

I have both Phenom II series & Intel core series processors and strongly suspect you are trolling the forum. Nobody can get this worked up about a company and people they don't even know. It's like you take everything said about AMD personally. How about this? AMD makes graphics cards 1000x better than anything intel has on the market, and are currently even better than nvidia. Will that make you feel better?

An intel pentium 4 @ 4.8ghz with a 8 year old nvidia card is not fast enough for dolphin. A core i7 underclocked at 1.4ghz will run everything on dolphin at full speed.

ehh... you can only really judge by benchmarks. and even then you dont know if someone set the rig up halfway right. neway.... like i said: my cpu performs very close to my friends i7... i have compared graphs of usage during bad company 2 play... compared super pi calculations... etc. i dont doubt the i7 is much better in architecture. and if you have the money to go intel, by all means do it. i however cannot afford to drop such money on a pc. i will stick with amd's cheap stuff and upgrade it when needed.

if you compared clock to clock, i7 is 0 to 30% faster single threaded. This thread makes me laugh.

You seem to overlook how long Socket 775 was supported. Also if you READ what I said you'll see me actually say that it's been confirmed that the next generation of Intel CPU's require a new socket.

Yes they do support AM2+ boards but please show me proof of AMD's next generation supporting AM2+/AM3? I'm honestly interested.

I got my i5 750 because it's just an i7 860 (i7 930 with a dual channel memory controller, 16 on CPU PCI-E 2.0 rails and lower power consumption on the LGA1156 socket) without hyperthreading for £70 less (at the time). I do nothing that would benefit from hyperthreading so why pay the extra for a feature that wouldn't benefit me?

There is no person in world who could convince me of buying intel 3 years old intel CPU for 280$ just because he says its faster when tomorrow when upgrading i have to buy board and cpu again,while i can get one of latest gen cpu hardware for 180$ with looong future support on my happily working AM2+ old board!

If you checked my profile you'd see I'm 18 but that's irrelevent. I know more about computer hardware than the teachers in the technology department at my local college because it's something I have a passion for and care about. But please tell me what "and u are still on i5" is supposed to mean? A quad core i5 is a quad core i7 without hyperthreading.....it's almost as if you think that i5 is older than i7? In fact the core i7 was originally released in 2008, the core i5 was released in 2009

Yet again this is pointless as if you check the first post you'll see that the topic is between a Phenom II X6 1055T against a Core i7 920.

A core i7 920 still beats the strongest available phenom processor (6-core 1090T) in all synthetic benchmarks, and 920 is a low-end nehalem processor which costs roughly 250 dollars.

This entire discussion is pointless. Yes both processors are good for dolphin but the topic was about performance.

Really, search any benchmark site in the world. There is no reason to rag on intel because even a core i3 dual core which costs 100-140 dollars performs stronger than a quad core phenom II x4.





I'm not a fanboy. I just find it irritating if people disregard products based on their own bias or flawed research. AMD cpus are good as budget processors. If you want better performance, get any of the newer intels.
