okay okay...this thread has become lolz for sure.

lets make facts here now shall we?
1.intel i7 620 is ONLY 2.6ghz,thats speed of my god forsaken athlon x2, price 280$
1. You are probably a troll
2. There is no i7 620, so much for facts
3. Clock frequency means
nothing with newer processors (a 1.6ghz mobile i7 is stronger than a 3.0ghz core 2 duo)
4. Why such a fanboy? There are benefits to using products from both manufacturers.
Yes, intel has a variety of sockets like the old 775, and now the socket 1156/1366. Will you need to upgrade "tomorrow"? No. The last two mentioned sockets will be good for at least a decade if not more, just as the socket 775 was.
Mind you socket 775 processor still sell more than any nehalem series processor on the market, and it's ancient.
Why would you identify so strongly with something that is just a brand? Anybody can own anything, it's just a matter of money. It's simple. If you want performance get an intel. If you want a good budget cpu, buy from amd.
I have both Phenom II series & Intel core series processors and strongly suspect you are trolling the forum. Nobody can get this worked up about a company and people they don't even know. It's like you take everything said about AMD personally. How about this? AMD makes graphics cards 1000x better than anything intel has on the market, and are currently even better than nvidia. Will that make you feel better?
IceManSR Wrote:intel i7 920 is 2.6 with turbo clock up to 2.9,for as i see its far below requirements dolphin needs.
Again with the frequency. What is so hard to grasp that frequency is not the only thing that matters with newer processors?
An intel pentium 4 @ 4.8ghz with a 8 year old nvidia card is not fast enough for dolphin. A core i7 underclocked at 1.4ghz will run everything on dolphin at full speed.
Read this article and you will understand how much more there is to processor speed than just clock frequency.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nehalem_(microarchitecture)
Quote:A 2.93 GHz Nehalem "Bloomfield" system has been used to run a 3DMark Vantage benchmark and gave a CPU score of 17,966.[19] The 2.66 GHz variant scores 16,294. A 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo E6600 scores 4,300.[20]
AnandTech tested the Intel QuickPath Interconnect ("QPI", 4.8 GT/s version) and found the copy bandwidth using triple-channel 1066 MHz DDR3 was 12.0 GB/s. A 3.0 GHz Core 2 Quad system using dual-channel 1066 MHz DDR3 achieved 6.9 GB/s.[21]
Overclocking is possible with Bloomfield processors and the X58 chipset. The Lynnfield processor uses a PCH removing the need for a northbridge chipset.[22]
The Nehalem processors are the first to incorporate the SSE 4.2 SIMD instructions, adding 7 new instructions to the SSE 4.1 set available in the Core 2 series.
The Nehalem architecture also significantly reduces atomic operation latency; cutting it to 50% in an attempt to eliminate atomic overhead [23].
ehh... you can only really judge by benchmarks. and even then you dont know if someone set the rig up halfway right. neway.... like i said: my cpu performs very close to my friends i7... i have compared graphs of usage during bad company 2 play... compared super pi calculations... etc. i dont doubt the i7 is much better in architecture. and if you have the money to go intel, by all means do it. i however cannot afford to drop such money on a pc. i will stick with amd's cheap stuff and upgrade it when needed.
if you compared clock to clock, i7 is 0 to 30% faster single threaded. This thread makes me laugh.

how long have u been in hardware's world?
Interested since 2002, tech aware since 2007~

that's fact, and u should know better before challenging that!
You seem to overlook how long Socket 775 was supported. Also if you READ what I said you'll see me actually say that it's been confirmed that the next generation of Intel CPU's require a new socket.
(06-23-2010, 10:08 AM)IcemanSR Wrote: [ -> ]Today new AMD AM3 socket is backward compatible! which means it can fit an all AM2+ boards!
AMD reveled that next gen of cpu's will be backward compatible as always been!So lets not talk rubbish.
Yes they do support AM2+ boards but please show me proof of AMD's next generation supporting AM2+/AM3? I'm honestly interested.

I'm pretty sure £20 won't buy you an extra 1055T....

i see u are having "i5 750 @ 3.2GHz"
why don't u put your "beloved" i7?does price bothers u?or is it just that u have to buy board + cpu ,and then next year new board and new cpu,and again ..?
I got my i5 750 because it's just an i7 860 (i7 930 with a dual channel memory controller, 16 on CPU PCI-E 2.0 rails and lower power consumption on the LGA1156 socket) without hyperthreading for £70 less (at the time). I do nothing that would benefit from hyperthreading so why pay the extra for a feature that wouldn't benefit me?

2 years ago me and my friend bought new comp's
he got intel comp worth 1300Euros i bought 400Euros AMD
Today, with his intel 2.1 ghz he is not capable to play any newer game - battlefield 2 example, and or dolphin :-)
due to lack of money he bought 7600XTX if i recall ,for me i used extra cash and bought Ati 3870x2 most powerful gpu then with modular chieftek 700W.and AMD 5200+ 2.6 ghz, every game works perfectly even today in full speed, and with tomorrows AMD x4 555 BE i will be even happier.for just 180$ and i can still keep my M2n-SLI board.which works flawlessly ,and him?he has to yet to replace his chieftek 400w ,and GPU and board, and CPU..and in 2 years all over again, except PSU maybe :-) BUT this time he is buying AMD.That's says all...
I'd be interested to see what each of you bought and the price, I suspest the figures are slightly "troll like".
I'm starting to get bored of this barrage of fanboyism now....sorry if this has been turned into a war but I don't react well to fanboys.
haha bla bla haha intel lovers haha u can maybe put dust to newcommers into their eyes with yours overmight stories haha
@Ocean i was excpecting more from u ,but u cannot see difference between tipo
@storm u are obviously a youngster,don't try to deny it.and u are still on i5 :-)

If you checked my profile you'd see I'm 18 but that's irrelevent. I know more about computer hardware than the teachers in the technology department at my local college because it's something I have a passion for and care about. But please tell me what "and u are still on i5" is supposed to mean? A quad core i5 is a quad core i7 without hyperthreading.....it's almost as if you think that i5 is older than i7? In fact the core i7 was originally released in 2008, the core i5 was released in 2009

Yet again this is pointless as if you check the first post you'll see that the topic is between a Phenom II X6 1055T against a Core i7 920.
A core i7 920 still beats the strongest available phenom processor (6-core 1090T) in all synthetic benchmarks, and 920 is a low-end nehalem processor which costs roughly 250 dollars.
This entire discussion is pointless. Yes both processors are good for dolphin but the topic was about performance.
IceManSR Wrote:and u are still on i5
Core i5 is
newer than core i7 (2008), or phenom II x4(2007). This fanboy fight about what is 'better or newer' isn't getting anywhere since some people refuse to objectively find facts.
Really, search any benchmark site in the world. There is no reason to rag on intel because even a core i3 dual core which costs 100-140 dollars performs stronger than a quad core phenom II x4.
I'm not a fanboy. I just find it irritating if people disregard products based on their own bias or flawed research. AMD cpus are good as
budget processors. If you want better performance, get any of the newer intels.
