SantaC, every update on the SVN is anywhere from changing one line of code, to rebuilding the entire HLE Audio engine.
As for the "do they actually fix something" comment, try looking at it from their perspective. Each error could be caused by any of hundreds of lines of code; the issue is isolating, examining, and correcting the bugs. Before you criticize, take a look at the code, and realize you're getting complete access to all of this for free.
In the meantime, try the suggestions mentioned above. I've personally played well past the intro without making any modifications to anything. It worked when I played off the disc, and is continuing to work with my dumped ISO.
