Zelda Skyward Sword in-game pointer really slow and poor tracking. Using a mouse.

Hi everyone.

I'm trying to get Dolphin working with Skyward Sword but I'm having some trouble. I couldn't figure out how to get the sensor bar and wiimote hooked up to my computer so I thought I'd just use my mouse instead.

However, I'm having a bit of trouble. When inputting my name the in-game cursor is really slow. Like, I'll scroll to the top of the screen and it will take a second for the game to react and then the pointer will take a couple seconds to move to the top of the screen.

Also, it cannot pan all the way to the left or right. I'm playing in windowed mode but full screen was having the same problem. If I scroll really quickly to the left of my screen, once my windows pointer hits the left boundary, the mouse (in-game) will stop where-ever it was when I hit the border (remember it's really slow).

I went to Options -> Wiimote Settings -> Configure and I see a red dot and a grey dot. I'm not sure what the differences between them are but I also tried messing around with the settings but nothing seems to fix the responsiveness or accuracy of the pointer.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks for reading.

Do you have a Wiimote and does your PC support bluetooth? Zelda SS is much more fun with real controls and also almost impossible to play without (but you can search for emulated motion plus).

Yeah it does but don't I still need a sensor? I figured you'd need some sort of USB connector for the sensor that I don't have at the moment. I'm not exactly sure how to set up the wiimote to work with my computer. Don't you need additional peripherals to get it working?

Also, I don't have Wiimotion plus.

You need an USB Bluetooth Dongle or integrated Bluetooth to connect your Wiiimote. Guides how to do that are available here. And you need a Motion Plus addon for your wiimote which is required by Zelda. Also a sensor bar is required, you can use your existing wii sensor bar or buy a cheap one from amazon or ebay.

But the most important thing is a very fast PC with a recent CPU and dedicated Ati or Nividia GPU. However, there is also a unsupported branch (version) of Dolphin that can emulate motion plus completely without wiimote, m+ addon and sensor bar. But I do not recommend to use it, as it seems way to hardcore to play games this way.

I got the wiimote connected to my computer. Unfortunately, I still do not have motion plus and I still don't know how to connect my sensor to my computer.

I am interested in the unsupported branch though if it will let me play with only my wiimote + nunchuck combo.

You need motionplus to play the game. While you can play the game with only motionplus (and no sensor bar), you can't do the same with a sensor bar but no motionplus.

If you don't already have motionplus, your best choice is to use the emulated motion plus, which uses only a mouse and keyboard. It does not substitute motionplus on your wiimote.

As for the sensor bar, if you look on the front page of the main site (dolphin-emu.org) you can see that the sensor bar doesn't actually "sense" anything, it is just a set of infrared lights. Basically, the Wii Remote senses the location of the sensor bar, not the other way around. So all you need is a sensor bar connected to some sort of power source (this could be a "wireless," or battery-operated sensor bar; you could also mod a regular, wired sensor bar but that would be difficult and very involved).

I would just go buy a wireless sensor bar and a wii motion plus add on (or if you can't find one a wii remote plus), but if you want to try to use the motion plus emulation you can. Just know that, to be honest, it ruins the fun of actually being able to move your arm to swing the sword.

I strongly suggest you to get a sensor bar. Zelda Skyward Sword is playable without the sensor bar but the game makes a lot of real time calibrations based on sensor bar, without it, the sword attacks will respond erratically and you'll be much more susceptible to get descalibrations, forcing you to recalibrate the Wiimote again and again.
