In your README at the main page it does seem say something about cheat codes to activate certain things.

"Instructions

- Enable the option: "Active Cheats" in the General Config menu."

Was that something important or just for people who wanted to use cheats.

Correct. You can dump all textures into a single folder and rename it PZLE01.

"Active Cheats" is required if you wish to use the enhancement codes, such as 30 FPS or Widescreen.

I downloaded and installed this texture pack (5.1). It works great the first time I launch the game after unzipping and copying the texture pack where it belongs. However, after I exit out of the game (using ESC to stop emulation), when I re-run the game a successive time, it crashes while the Nintendo logo is loading, or shortly thereafter. Odd that it works great once, then crashes afterward. I'm using the latest Dolphin Dev build, as well as the suggested configuration when using this custom texture pack. OS: Win 10, GPU: AMD Radeon 5700XT, CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, RAM: 64GB

If I delete the entire texture directory and all its contents, then unzip the same texture pack from the 7z file and placed it back into the correct location, everything works fine. It's after quitting the game and re-opening that the problems occur.

Edit: after a reboot, everything started working again with the UHD textures. Seems that when I have the AMD Radeon overlay and metrics enabled, problems occur. Disabling them seems to help. Seems to be a bug with Dolphin itself as I haven't quite pinned down the exact cause of the crash.

More info regarding the crash issues I was experiencing with the 5.1 UHD Texture pack (in the latest Dolphin dev build, 5.0-13712). The problem seems to boil down to the Custom Texture Prefetch being ON. When it's on, the game seems to work the FIRST time without issues. When re-launching however, Dolphin crashes. Disabling the Prefetch fixes the crash (for game re-launching). Odd issue but that's what I found to solve it. Btw, whether Prefetch is on or off doesn't seem to impact performance at all, at least not on my system. Perhaps it serves more purpose on an older system or systems with slow storage (non-SSD). I'll post this info in the Support area as it's probably not appropriate here anyway. Just wanted to add the info here as disabling Prefetch fixed the problems I was having with the 5.1 UHD pack.

Changing the graphics backend from Vulkan (what I had always been using previously...simply because AMD usually plays nice with Vulkan) to D3D12 seems to have fixed a lot of glitches and problems when using this texture pack on my particular system. I do enable the Emulated CPU Clock override, set to ~200% which smooths out the frame rate tremendously in Majora's Mask. I know that with the original Collector's Edition running on my GameCube there are slow-downs, this game definitely seems to benefit from the CPU overclock. Even with the internal resolution cranked to 4k my CPU usage barely touches 4% and GPU mainly stays below 50%, using 40-50W of power to drive the graphics which means the GPU (AMD Radeon 5700XT) barely breaks a sweat. I notice slightly more stuttering (mostly audio stutters here and there, but it's very minor) with D3D12 compared to Vulkan, but definitely better stability overall.

Kudos for the excellent job with the textures - a big thanks to @Admentus and all of the other contributors for the time spent on R&D, making these classics look state-of-the-art nearly 25 years later. A job extremely well done.

The DDS BC7 pack should offer better performances than the PNG pack. You might want to have at least 16GB+ RAM in order to use Prefetch Custom Textures, which should definitely help out making performance smoother. Alternatively you could try out the Virtual Console version if you happened to own that as well and see if it works better, plus, the VC version is actually moddable.

Thanks for the follow-up reply. I am using the DDS BC7 pack, and not the PNG version. I have 64GB of RAM in the system so the amount of RAM is not the problem. Based on further reading about custom texture Prefetch, it appears others have encountered some issues with it. When Prefetch is ON, it does work fine the first time around. However, when exiting the game then re-launching, Dolphin errors out and crashes. Disabling Prefetch doesn't seem to cause any performance issues on my particular system. It actually runs perfectly fine at full FPS without it, with minimal stuttering. I am using the CPU overclock within Dolphin to smooth out FPS. As far as system utilization, my GPU barely breaks a sweat and CPU seems to remain under 5-10%, so it's definitely not remotely pushing system limits. It is comical though that the CPU overclock has the added benefit of making the day/night cycle in OoT only a few minutes in length.

The custom 5.1 HD textures look amazing, and it's been very enjoyable playing through an old game with modern textures and menus! I don't own the VC version of the game, but do own the disc version of the Collector's Edition (which I dumped myself many months ago) for the GameCube.

Another item to note...Ocarina of Time does very well under the widescreen hack and 30fps Gecko/AR codes (with the HD custom textures loaded), while Majora's Mask simply does not. I found that with the 30fps and widescreen hack codes enabled in MM (with CPU overclock boosted to over 300%), graphical glitches and choppy audio became a major issue.

The 30fps hack really makes a pronounced difference in OoT as far as smoothness...the contrast between 20 and 30fps is substantial when flipping the code on and off using the D-pad.

Hello Admentus, first of all, amazing job you are doing here. I'm currently trying the game to see how it goes and so far it has been incredible but i have been really struggling to change the language of the game to Spanish, i think i have tried everything that i can do but the language does not change, i can change the interface and the main menu language but when i get into Ocarina of Time it starts showing everything in English, i would appreciate some help because i want to show this amazing game to my niece and i think this best version is the best to show her, thanks in advance!

The Collector's Edition for Majora's Mask isn't as effective in performance as it should be. The choppy audio is one among the issue. The Virtual Console is the better emulator than the GameCube versions. And since the Virtual Console version is moddable, there's no need for that many Action Replay / Gecko Codes anymore. I am mostly removing AR / Gecko codes these days from the US VC versions since those have become redundant. A few will still remain due not being supported in Patcher64+... yet.

The US VC versions have also been tested the most thoroughly for the AR / Gecko Codes at this point. Using codes is nice and can do quite a bit, but it's simply not as elegant as simple ROM modifications, and you quickly run into issues when you mess around with the RAM size.

I am probably not going to support the GameCube discs for that much longer. It's simply an inferior option to that of using the Virtual Console version, especially now considering that modding for it has been become an option for it. Texture pack and existing codes support won't go anywhere through.

You can use the US Virtual Console version and use the Patcher64+ Tool to patch the Spanish localization into the game.

Ocarina of Time has no native Spanish translation. Only Majora's Mask did. Patcher64+ offers support for a Spanish fan-translation for Ocarina of Time.
