For the most part that dolphin cares about (drivers) - it's "just another" SD845. It's somewhat up to the vendors when (and if) they take driver updates from upstream and push them out to consumers, but that's not really related to how many glowing green LEDs they put on the thing.

Honestly as far as dolphin is concerned, Google’s devices are the best bet. The driver updates are far more aggressive, especially if you follow the android preview updates. Still no independent GPU driver updates though. Hopefully that initiative is still being worked on.

That liquid cooling function looks promising. That's probably the next avenue for phone makers to get that next big performance jump.

Liquid cooling makes sense in larger form factors as they can move the heat away from the CPU to somewhere more useful (normally a big radiator with fans forcing cool air through). But on a mobile, there's not really anywhere they can take it. And in the long term, the total amount of heat the device can dissipate is purely a function of the total area in contact with the air, and the temperature difference between the device and air itself. So 'water cooling' might help short-term throttling, where the local area around the SoC heats up too much to maintain a specific clock, but I'm not sure I see the clear benefit over a chunk of metal - which would have a lower thermal mass but move heat away quicker - effectively increasing the max surface temperature to help the long-term thermal stability. IE I'll wait for reviews, thanks. 04-15-2018, 02:48 PM
The "water cooling" is a pr stunt. Vapor chamber cooling has been used in heatsinks for years and years
