Howdy,

Wondering if anyone has seen this before. I get a bizarre issue when using the Vulkan backend and playing Xenoblade.

This gif demonstrates:

This is happening on the last few dev builds, and I tried a build from a month ago. It runs perfectly on D3D and OpenGL, but I think Vulkan may give me more headroom with FPS as it does on other games, so I'd prefer to use it.

The log doesn't show any oddities and just end up loading whatever sound file and DVD read just like the D3D version.

I'm running:

5.0-5477

i7 4710HQ
870m
Win7

As a side note... there appears to be some sort of D3D11 regression, as right now with Mario Kart Wii. I get a black box in the corner over the last few dev builds, whereas a build from about a month ago doesn't have this issue.

Please let me know if you require more information, or if you have the faintest idea what could be happening with my Xenoblade!

Thank you

Windows 7 doesn't include a new enough D3D11 version for LogicOp support (which recently got added to D3D.) Please upgrade to a newer OS if you still wish to use D3D for games like Mario Kart.

Ah, that's good to keep in mind, thank you for the information! Would it be possible to include that tidbit on your next progress report, just a note about potential compatibility issues in the future? I'm curious if other games are going to be affected.

As for upgrading to a newer OS... I'll be testing Linux+KVM on my laptop when I have more free time. Without much elaboration, and certainly not for any dogmatic ideological reason, I don't plan to ever install Win10 without it being a guest.

Anyways... That wasn't my main problem. I'm still hoping somebody has an idea why Xenoblade is behaving that way. It's not just the camera, I can see quick flashes in the menu when I load up the game, and the loading screen animation overlaps itself. It's just... bizarre.

I was told by stenzek that optimus may be misbehaving and it could be another driver issue.

I've just fully clean installed my GeForce drivers, and I've now tested every game in my fairly short list, and it seems I still have problems with Xenoblade and another, but no problems with a couple others.

I guess Vulkan is just not for me then. Thank you JMC47, I appreciate your assistance.

EDIT: I'm going to try DOOM 2016 with their Vulkan renderer and see what I can come up with. I just realised I had the game sitting here in Steam.

EDIT2: Yikes, this game is large. Will probably report back tomorrow. If DOOM functions correctly would there possibly be any indication of it being a Dolphin related issue?

EDIT3: Seems laptops with Optimus are also completely boned in relation to KVM+PCI Passthrough. Bah. Well, my desktop build will happen eventually I suppose.

EDIT4: Vulkan is seemingly a no-go. DOOM+Vulkan = pain beyond levels of comprehension. Since KVM is also a no-go, I guess I'll tinker with a WinX dual boot partition later instead. =/
