I wish there was some indication as to what causes the freezing so I could at least change some settings to minimize the chance of it happening.

I really thought this was fixed when Last Story freezing got fixed..I guess not.
Did you try using Jitil ? 03-19-2013, 03:52 AM
JITIL tends to slow the game down during battles so I haven't been using it, but I'll turn it on and see what happens.

Yeesh, my PC blue screen'd while I was playing with JITIL turned on. I have two monitors and I clicked off of Dolphin to check something on my 2nd one, which caused my PC to give me the BSOD and restart O_o

Well the BSOD prompted me to update my video drivers, I hadn't thought of it because they were only a couple months old. Well since doing that I've played for a few hours with no freezing. I usually can't play this long without it freezing so I think I'll call this one resolved

I dunno, but i used a hle patched version (I think i used 3.0-5xx something).
I didn't have crashes except when using fast save and load (as expected sometimes). I have 86 hours in game, so I'm pretty sure it's stable. I did play in OSX with OpenGL, maybe OpenGL backend is more stable on win too?

I'd appreciate an in-depth discussion on this issue as well, as currently support for XB is scattered across these three threads depending on your configuration and whether you're using the HD texture pack or not:
http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-pat...hlight=dll http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-hd-...ep-28-2012 http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-wii...chronicles Trying to decipher which HLE version to use is frustrating, as they are all "unofficial" and therefor hard to get support for. Yet, a lot of us want to play this game, and if not for this one sound problem, it'd be great... but then there's also the freezing problem. For me, this is what finally worked: official 3.5 x64 version with FPS limit set to AUDIO, and Limit by FPS checked. Vbeam checked. ...unfortunately, my game still freezes, almost always within 1-2 hours of playing. I've never gone beyond 2-ish hours without a freeze/crash. So it would seem that even with the official version, or revised versions of the 3.5 branch there is still crashes. The audio problem is gone for me, as in I do not get crackling anymore like I used to. I was getting a lot of audio skipping/cutting out which was solved when I set the FPS to AUDIO. I'd love for this game to get more special attention so that we can play it without fear of the audio starting to give out or the game freezing at a crucial moment!

Not that I have a solution or anything, but I literally just started playing this on Dolphin some 20 minutes ago. I'm sticking to 3.5 x64 (on Linux) so I'll update you on how it goes. Messed with the settings before I even began to play (FPS Limit to 30, Limit by FPS, Accurate VBeam Emulation), seems to be doing fine so far, only had one bit of skipping with Dickson, but it honestly lasted for one word during his dialog. If I come across any crashes (or none, hopefully) I'll let you know how I'm doing.

Update for me:
I left the game on overnight for about ~8 hours. I'm at the beginning of the game still, just left Shulk standing in the town. The game didn't crash. When I got back on my computer in the morning it was still running, but the "wiimote" had disconnected, which is normal. So for me the crashes seem to be related to stuff actually happening in the game. Both times it was while I was running around, and possibly moving the camera at the same time. I think it could be related to the HD texture pack, and it's crashing upon loading one of the custom textures? Hard to say.

I'm basically playing New Game+ or whatever you want to call it with imported saves from my Wii. Been trying lots of things as well. Now, I only got 2 freezes in ~6 hours. I guess they might be audio/timing based. OpenAL (3.5-419 is the earliest build I've compiled with the new OpenAL implementation) increased latency and setting FPS limit to Auto has so far helped me. Trying to determine if Accurate VBeam emulation is necessary since OpenAL takes care of stuttering. I'm about to go through a long playthrough, updates coming later.
