It's all a personal choice. I like PlayStation's selection of games, but XBox360 has much of the same selection too. Though there are certain games that seem available only on certain consoles.

I think some of the early PS3 Models had backwards compatibility to play PS2 games (but I think the PS3-Slim version doesn't have this), so that's a bonus if you had some PS2 games. It might be harder to find a new backwards-compatible PS3 model now, but if you're willing to buy second-hand, you may get lucky. With XBox360 I think only certain titles were backwards compatible.

I was considering myself if I may soon get either a PS3 of XBox360, and its a toss-up. I'm a PlayStation fan since the first one (I owned the original PlayStation and PS2 along with many games), but having a chance to play XBox360 at a friends place, I certainly see it's a very nice gaming console too and the graphics looks like they may be a bit better on XBox360 for some games.

I was in the mall the other day, just browsing in a couple of stores and getting an idea of prices now for the consoles, and here where I'm at (in Canada), currently the PS3 was around the $400 range, and the XBox360 was around the $300 range. I remember about a year-ago they were both around the $400 range, so currently for some reason XBox360 has dropped in price (perhaps a lack of sales, popularity, or Micro$oft trying to put a squeeze on the competition?). Games for both consoles still seem rather pricey at around an average of $40 to $50 for the newer or popular titles... but with a bit of looking around you may find some bargains on the older titles.

It's still a toss-up for me, but I'm sort of leaning to the PS3 side if I decide to go ahead and get a new gaming console, though I may try to find a in-good-condition second-hand PS3 that fully supports the backwards-compatibility.

Actually get ready for 59.99 for the top of the line new games on either console. Avoid the new ps3 with a passion. Find a older one. But on the funny side check this link out for sony LOL
