After downloading the Dolphin Emulator and trying it out i discovered a problem. It is inconvenient for me to use a keyboard and mouse to play games so I decided to go out and buy a wired Xbox controller. It is a rockcandy controller, and I picked it up cheaply but it still works fine with other games such as Fallout 3. I have been unable to make it work with emulators. Any advice or help on what to do would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

(I have suspected it doesn't work because the emulator isn't in full screen but have realized that this isn't correct when i tried using the controller with a game that I can toggle fullscreen on an off, it doesn't work)

There's supposedly a bug in the latest dev builds that breaks controllers unless background input is turned on. EIther use background input or wait for someone to work out how they broke it.
OS: Windows 10 64 bit Professional
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5900X
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Radeon Vega 56

I've turned on background input on the GCPad settings, but it still doesn't work. Any other suggestions?

I'm using dolphin on Linux, so with the in-kernel (xpad) drivers.
On Linux it just works "out of the box", but I'm using the git version.

This might just be a driver issue.

EDIT: Just to be clear, define "does not work". Are you unable to input binds, did you select the gamepad as the input source, or is it just not working in the emulator window?

Thanks a lot for the help and I managed to fix it (not really fix, i was just being stupid). I forgot to bind the controls.
