X Link Kai and Dolphin?

Has anyone figured out how to tunnel Mario Kart Double Dash over lan using X Link Kai. I am using the same setup that allows me to play Phantasy Star episode I & II but when I try the setup with X Link kai it just keep saying "Looking for Nintendo Gamecube Systems...".For my internet setup I tried both wired and wireless setup bridged to the OpenVpn broadband adapter and still nothing.
