ocz does not produce ram, they buy it from others (e.g. samsung, infineon,...), put a heatspreader on it so little kids like it and sell it(obviously) for more.

another point, that ive overseen, is that you choose sodimm, which means this ram is for notebooks only and not for desktop pc !

well, they don't overprice it that much. Where else can you order specific ics that are cheaper? The oem won't sell them to the market. Also, they bin it.

adata, samsung, mdt and infineon chips are buyable with same name.

micron does sell under the name crucial, infineon also as aeneon.

im not sure if there are more real producers.

of course you need to realise that original ram is always lower rated then its possible speed.

3rd party manufactorer know this and sell the same ram with higher voltage and clock.

thats why the prices are not that high, compared to ram named the same.

But take those micron for example. there was a particular crucial ram with 533mhz sold back in 2007 for very few money but was clockable even beyond 1000mhz.

Of course, if you buy the same ram from ocz or other 3rd party, you buy it as 1066mhz ram with 2,3V or whatever, but its just the same ram.

it's binned though. the crucial ram was based on d9gmh/d9gkx, but it was a luck of the draw. Not all of them could do it.

yes, you never know if it will be possible to reach exactly that, but with a few moments on google you will find out what it will reach on average.

especially if you buy from a producer that has no premium line (like micron has or inf/aeneon lately), you can be sure that the given ram is just clocked low because of the JEDEC-rules with 1.8V for ddr2 and 1.5V for ddr3.

just think about it : a reseller can never give you the same price as the original manufactorer, at least not in this times with dumping memory prices.
