Hi All,

Have got the HTC 10, rooted and running venom on Nougat which is great, have been watching Dolphin for a long time now waiting for the day that i could play Zelda (windwaker) on my phone whilst on lunch in work, i understand the science and the limitations to the ARM processors that are available today, but with the HTC 10 and a little overclock with a custom kernel i've managed to get a solid 30 fps for the whole of onset island, the ship up until the forsaken fortress, there's just too much going on graphically.

Also the phone usually begins to throttle around 30 mins (tweaked the CPU and GPU to gain the most time)

Have to say when i managed it I was over the moon, but as i'm playing through and when i got to the F. Island the frames just take a hit and drop to 17 fps, absolutely gutting.

Just wanted to ask really, has anyone with a similar processor managed to get any more out of it, are there any settings or tweaks or more optimized versions of the emulator?

Any help would be great, thanks Smile

Also if anyone would like the ini file or what i changed i'd be happy to help.

Thanks.

Apologies. This question has been asked a number of times and you claimed in your post to know the situation with mobile SoCs on Dolphin.

In all honesty, that really is the only thing you can do. Make the device colder so it doesn't throttle. Optimizing the aarch64 JIT is squeezing water from a stone right now, and graphics driver bugs prevents anybody from caring about the GPU side of things.

Screwing with thermal / clock speed settings on your device with no way to cool it is a nice way to damage it, so I can't recommend that either.

Hi! You still got the ini tweaks that you adjusted?
I have a LeEco Le Pro 3, snapdragon 821. Playing Wind Waker, Vexx, and Metroid Prime 2 on my phone even in half hour bursts is awesome.

Don't worry about the nay sayers, we can squeeze a little more play time out of dolphin I'm sure Smile

Either way there is usually something more that can be done,  as I said I've managed to get it to about half an hour,  I could get more,  my emphasis is on the emulator itself and all the settings,  once I'm aware that they're at their absolute peak then I can tweak the kernel more.

Also I've  worked with kernels before so am fine with software, I'm not a developer but I know when I'm about to fry something.

Currently on a HTC  10 using elemental X kernel,  small over clock to the cpu (both clusters) 200mhz, another 200 on the GPU,  boost on high (GPU)  high performance mode on (CPU) like I said lasts about half hour give or take usually more.

There must be something that can be adjusted or altered in the emulator side,  some optimizations? I've tweaked what I can identify but wanted to see if anyone knew more,  apologies if there is another thread,  I was under the impression from all the videos I've seen that the frames i was getting were by far superior except besides the nvidia range of course.

Unless you think it really has got to the point where nothing more can be done?

Sure I'll post it here today ,  I'll make a little video of the set up I've got,  version I have and the performance,  bare in mind that the settings and ini alone did not give me the performance I have,  the kernel and settings have a lot to do with it mate.

And although I don't agree  with Helios' somewhat defeatist outlook (might just be me being overly optimistic)  I do agree with him in the sense that messing with the the kernel and overclocking can damage your handset so it'll be down to yourself if you do, although if you've never done that before, you're not rooted etc I wouldn't recommend it.

Also, come the forsaken fortress / island, the frames are going to drop, thats the only part I can't get to run perfectly,

I'll post both here today. Smile

Ps: im not trying to get every game working,  just windwaker.

Windwaker as main focus is cool with me as its my favorite. Those three games I stated earlier were what I tried and had running at playable frames.

Just got to Forsaken Fortress and just sitting in the boat before you get shot off to the island and noticed my FPS went way down.

Me trying to make it run faster:
I enabled skipping 4 frames, upped the Override Emulated CPU Clock Speed to 50%, gpu overclocked(dunno if helped much, might desync audio) to 1.2 and the FPS went up from 14-17 to 22-25.
If given no other choice in certain areas, disabling audio temporarily may help a bit. I went to the .ini and changed the DSP backend to "No Audio Output". Without audio I get 25-28 fps outside with the spotlights and 32-37 inside.

Not very practical I know but if FPS is needed in certain areas to be playable, that helped me so far. Hoping the tweaks you posted are better than what I did lol.

My phone can't be overclocked just yet, stock and very experimental kernels are the only ones out right now. Thanks for the warning though.

Edit: Figured Out that audio being disabled did not provide the Framerate increase.

A Video I recorded, Forgive the Onscreen Controls I know they block some of the screen for you guys:

Any UI lag was due to recording it at 1080p, no ingame lag though.

Actually mate,  I think you're doing better than I am haha.. Been tinkering all day,  I've messed something up in my kernel so will reflash the rom tomorrow.  Just needed my phone for today as I was out and about.

I've toyed with the  idea of disabling audio,  I remember back when mame started and killing audio gave you a huge boost, I believe the game can be played without audio, so maybe that's the way forward.

Not sure why I couldn't match the fps output I was getting previously,  also where do you see frame skipping?  Ini?
