Yeah I was tired and screwed up on what that would prove, but I still suggested to try booting linux off a live cd first, just didn't say that would help check for a HDD issue. I don't think this person is coming back to read our responses.

It's cool, lol, I just said it because this guys problem happened to me, word for word, and it ended up being a dead drive, but it's like you said, it still could be anything else

Yeah, I'm really trying to figure out now why I said that would disprove unstable cpu rather than HDD crash, must have been tired. I think 90% chance HDD crash, 5% faulty memory, 4% almost sufficient power supply, and 1% cpu.

1. reset the cmos/take out battery
2. install windows again
3. if it doesnt boot, maybe somethings wrong in your bios settings (for example to me, I dont have a floppy, so everytime i reset my bios, it gives me a floppy error and i cant load windows ...so i have to disable it on the bios settings)
4. buy a new motherboard
5. buy a new hard drive
6.maybe your copy of windows XP is corrupted? ... try installing it with another CD
