I recently dual booted my laptop with Linux and Windows, and was wondering if there's any significant difference between performance/support etc between the two.
Windows v Linux

Depends on your GPU.
Nvidia: no meaningful difference except you need to use exclusive mode on ubershaders for it to work well (because no D3D) AMD: You need to use Vulkan or performance will suck Intel: No meaningful difference. 12-03-2017, 04:04 AM
Laptop has both integrated graphics and an nvidia quadro k1100m, but as far as I know I don't have the Linux api's/tools to switch between them yet. Main reason(s) I'm asking are just curiosity / I've been considering a dual boot on my desktop for some time but was forced into doing one on my laptop for Operating Systems class so I figured now was a good time to ask

Also IIRC the LAN Adapter emulation only works on Linux for some reason that I don't remember... something about latency on Windows being too high?

BBA emulation under Windows has modem-caliber speeds, so it wouldn't be difficult for Linux to have better performance.

IDK why intel doesn't release the vulkan drivers on windows. In my testing with my AMD APU, D3D12 was always faster than D3D11, and Vulkan was always 5% slower than D3D12. Since they removed D3D12, I switched to Vulkan, since it was still very performant. The easiest way to know if something is faster on your hardware, is to test it yourself. Vulkan is better than DX11 on AMD hardware, I've never been put through the torture of using my friend's laptops intel iGPU with Dolphin, so I can't say anything about intel. |
