If you don't like the look, feel and style Metro has with Windows 8, there's no reason to believe Windows 9 is not going to be basically designed the same way. That may very well mean that a lot of people are still going to be using Windows 7 for a long long time.

Do you have any evidence to support this?

Yes. Windows 8 is designed that way and that's the direction Microsoft is heading for the future. There's no reason to think they're suddenly going to abandon that when creating new operating systems. Not everything needs to have evidence smack you in the face to be a believer. Just look at the trends and you should be able to see where we're going.

If Windows 7 sales stay high for years after Microsoft declares it obsolete, they're likely to realise that these's a huge userbase who don't like metro, so avoid it.

But they do it all the time. This is microsoft in a nutshell. When something doesn't sell well they abandon it.

No but it does need to have some type of evidence. Otherwise I'm supposed to take it on faith alone.

All I see is this idea crashing and burning. And microsoft must have figured that out by now.

Starscream's arguments seem to be developing a theme.

Personally, I don't want metro gone, just disabled by default.

I must agree. As much as I like someone agreeing with me I try not to insult SS's character, especially not directly and not by name (as much as I would really like to sometimes). Even though we constantly have heated arguments it rarely gets out of hand in that regard. Plus this place would be so boring without someone to argue with. I had a similar rivalry back in high school. Some of the public arguments we had were fucking glorious. Also he's an admin so.....yeah. IRC has a more playful attitude so I can always insult him there instead Tongue

Annnnnyway, to bring it back to topic.

I kind of agree with SS on this, mainly because of Windows Phone. Despite massive PR budgets and the full weight of the company that MS has put behind it, Windows Phone landed with a resounding "splat". It's what, 1% of the smartphone market? It's crowning achievement is overtaking Blackberry just barely. How much has MS spent on ads for that bloody thing? You'd think that after that showing, they'd stop and think about Windows Phone, figure out what they are doing wrong. Instead they decided cram it into their best selling product, where it doesn't fit in at all, whether people want it or not. Seriously MS? After that, I wouldn't be surprised if Windows 9 is even more of this stuff.

I think they finally snapped.
