Wind Waker Mirror Shield problem(Modifier Buttons)

I'm stuck in the earth temple because i can't aim the mirror shield on that symbol, people said for me to use the modifier buttons to modify the axes so I can "half press", want to know how to modify the axes, I already asked this here, however last time, I just got ignored because you guys only said to me what to do, NOT "HOW" TO DO, SO I want to know how to use the modifier buttons "HOW" HOW HOW HOW HOW HOW, NOT THAT THEY EXIST!

Press the modifier button the same time as one of the joystick buttons.

Just close and open the game, worked for me
